Obituary
William B. McCubbin, 79, of Springfield formerly of
Mount Pulaski and Buffalo passed away at 1:48 a.m.
Friday August 4, 2017 at Lewis Memorial Christian
Village in Springfield.
William was born on December 29, 1937 in Buffalo, to
Paul and Viola (Lane) McCubbin. Bill married Joyce
Wiebking on November 23, 1961 in Springfield. She
Survives.
Bill and Joyce were the proud parents of one
daughter Michelle (Stephen) Mason of Mount Pulaski
and one son Michael (Cathy) McCubbin of Buffalo.
He was Grandpa Bill to six grandchildren, Ryan Mason
(fiancée Kayla Rossi), Rachel Mason, Jennifer
(Casey) McCormick, Jessica (Chris) McCawley, Eric
(Emily) McCubbin, and Kristen McCubbin. To his two
great-granddaughters, Harper and Evyn, he was Papa
Bill. He is also survived by his sister Paula (Mick)
Bell and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by his parents, and sisters Kathleen
(Charlie) McKay and Frances (Ben) Hickman.
Bill graduated from Mount Pulaski High School in
1955. He served in the Air National Guard from 1955
until 1962 attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. |
He was a founding director of the bank in
Mechanicsburg. He also served in the founding of the
Illini Corporation and Holding Company in
Springfield. Bill was a lifelong farmer, and very
proud to be a steward of the land.
He was a member of Mount Pulaski Christian Church.
He was a big Chicago Cub fan and was thrilled when
they won the World Series in 2016. Bill also loved
watching the Fighting Illini.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday August 9,
2017 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Mount Pulaski with Casey McCormick and Mark Weber
officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Tuesday August 8, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial
will be at Steenbergen cemetery in Mount Pulaski.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
Family Life Center Building fund or to Memorial Home
Hospice Services.
