The Lincoln College Women’s Volleyball team kicked off the
2017 season with a road win at Illinois Valley Community College on
Tuesday evening. LC earned a three set victory by scores of 25-21,
25-18, and 25-20.
Lincoln College Coach Mark Tippett was happy with the way his team
performed. “We had some early game jitters which led to a few
unforced errors in the first set, but once we got comfortable on the
court, our athleticism and ball control took over to get us on
track,” said Tippett.
Lincoln (1-0) was led in kills by freshman leftside hitter Maddie
Malinowski (Bloomington) with 11. Malinowski just edged out fellow
leftside hitter Kaylyn Hoffert (Lincoln) who racked up 10 kills.

8 points for the Lady Lynx, while fellow sophomore Jenna Weller
(Salt Fork) had 8 assists and 4 points. Sophomore middle hitter
Elyssa Smith (Metamora) had 2 kills and 2 blocks for Lincoln and
freshman right side hitter Ashlee Gotter (Ancona) chipped in five
kills and a block in her first college match.

Freshman Megan Gillium (Waterloo) started at libero for LC and led
the team with 16 digs and served two points.
Tippett was especially impressed by the contributions the team got
from their freshman class. “Our new players gained some valuable
experience in this match and showed that they definitely have the
ability to play at this level.”
The Lady Lynx will host their first home matches of the season this
weekend. The team will take on Lincoln Trail on Friday evening at
6:00 p.m. and will host a four-team event on Saturday. Saturday
match times are set for 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
