In a wild one at Frazier Park in Mount Pulaski, the WLB Wolverines
edged the Bruins 11-9 in 8 innings. Wolverine starting pitcher Sam
Gleason got off to a bit of a rocky start walking 4 straight batters
in the bottom of the first inning, but settled down nicely and
didn't allow another base on balls the rest of the way. "I'm
super-proud of Sammy to hang in there like he did tonight," said
coach Nelson. "The mound was a bit tricky and steeper than we're
used to, so it took him a bit to settle in, and settle in he did. I
asked him if he had it in him to get it right, and he said
'absolutely'. I could tell he wanted it and he did a great job."
The Wolverines scored 2 in the opening frame when Battin led off and
was hit by an inside fastball. Daulton Miller sacrificed Battin to
2nd and reached on an errant play. Jacob Langley added an RBI single
in the inning. The Bruins answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the
inning to take an early 4-2 lead and added another in the 2nd to go
up 5-2.
WLB battled back scoring 1 in their half of the 4th
inning and took the lead 7-5 with a 4-run 5th inning. Gleason,
Langley, and Brady Miller all had RBI's in the inning.

Mount Pulaski wouldn't go away as they tied it up in
the bottom of the 6th inning. Relief pitcher Trey Schilling took
over for Gleason in the 6th and recorded 2 quick outs. After a
single, walk and an error, the Bruins tied the score at 7 apiece.
Neither team threatend in the 7th inning. WLB broke
the game open a bit with 4 runs in the 8th inning sending 8 hitters
to the plate. Lucas Jones led off the inning with a walk and scored
on Scotty Battin's single. Battin scored on Daulton Millers ground
ball. Langley and Drew Eimer both walked and scored in the inning.
The Bruins wouldn't go away, however and managed 2 runs in the
bottom of the 8th and had the tying and go-ahead runs on with the
bases loaded before the final out. With the bases loaded, 2 outs,
and down 11-9, the Bruin 7-hitter knocked a short fly ball to
shallow left field that was stabbed by shortstop Daulton Miller
saving at least 2 runs and securing the win for the Wolverines.
WLB will host Delavan for a double-header at Miller Field on
Saturday. First game will start at 9:00am.
Record: 5-2
