The Lincoln College Men’s Soccer team began their 2017
campaign with a 4-1 loss at home to Indian Hills Community College
on Sunday.
Head Coach Ben Massena described Indian Hills as one of the
strongest teams he has seen. “They brought 23 players from their 62
man roster with them and they were all experienced, international
players. Definitely one of the best teams I have faced at the
college level.”
Lincoln was up to the challenge early in the contest, but gave up
goals during the 14th minute and the 27th minute of the first half.
The team nearly ended the period with just the two goal deficit, but
Indian Hills managed a goal with only 30 seconds left in the half to
take a 3-0 lead.
The Lynx did not let trailing by three goals stop them from mounting
a charge in the second half. LC struck first after the break when
Adrian Roman scored to give the team a much needed lift. Their hopes
for a comeback did not last long though, as Indian Hills would score
only 12 seconds later on a four-pass combination that made the score
4-1.

In assessing his team’s performance, Coach Massena
was quick to focus on the positives. “Our guys really responded well
in the second half, said Massena. “We played them evenly in the
second in terms of goals, but we actually had more possessions and
more shots on goal.” Lincoln had one goal called off due to an off
sides penalty and hit the crossbar on another scoring attempt. The
Lynx inspired play in the second half forced Indian Hills to keep
their starters on the field the entire game.
Lincoln will look to get their first win on Saturday when they
travel to Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville for a 1:00 pm
match. [Mark Tippett
