NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings
Koehn, Marshall
K Marshall Koehn had a game Sunday night that kind of summarizes the
difficulty in taking a leap of faith on a young, strong-legged guy
with no regular-season experience.
With experienced veteran Kai Forbath getting the night off, Koehn
made 1 of 2 field goal attempts and all three extra points. He made
a 58-yarder with plenty of room to spare, but he missed a 47-yarder.
The Vikings also prefer his leg strength on kickoffs.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Bradford, Sam
QB Sam Bradford completed 17 of 21 passes for 134 yards, no
turnovers and a 93.3 passer rating. But the offense didn't reach the
end zone.
Again. Bradford won't play in the preseason finale on Thursday
against Miami, so he heads into the regular season without having
reached the end zone in limited action during three preseason games.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Keenum, Case
Case Keenum quietly upgraded the team's No. 2 spot at signal caller.
The Vikings decided against re-signing aging vet Shaun Hill after
last season.
They went out and got Keenum, who was familiar with Pat Shurmur's
offense. Keenum played well in the first two preseason games. Then,
Sunday night against the 49ers, he completed 10 of 14 passes for 139
yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 142.6 passer rating.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Minnesota Vikings Kendricks, Eric
MLB Eric Kendricks, who led the team in tackles in each of his first
two seasons, looks even better heading into Year 3.
He's looking quicker and faster as he masters the defense and lets
his strong instincts take over. He had a sack tied for the team lead
in tackles with four against the 49ers.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New Orleans Saints Peterson, Adrian
RB Adrian Peterson's appearance in the preseason game against
Houston was his first preseason action since 2013 and he carried the
football in a preseason game for the first time since 2011.
So, he said, his six carries were "good work." Peterson finished
with 15 yards rushing.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New Orleans Saints Unger, Max
C Max Unger, who returned to practice last week after undergoing
offseason foot surgery, will make his preseason debut Thursday.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - New Orleans Saints Armstead, Terron
T Terron Armstead appears ahead of schedule in his return from June
shoulder surgery and therefore likely wont go on injured reserve,
coach Sean Payton said.
Armstead, who originally was expected to miss half the season,
figures to stay on the Physically Unable to Perform list until he's
ready.
-----------------------------------------------

returned to practice on Tuesday.
-----------------------------------------------

CB Prince Amukamara (ankle) was injured on the first play from
scrimmage of Sunday's game and is day to day. He was wearing a boot
cast after the game, then missed Tuesday's practice.

WR Cameron Meredith (knee) suffered a torn left ACL and is out for
the season.

Scales in Sunday's win over Tennessee and did so without incident.

29), but did not play in Sunday's game.

WR Markus Wheaton (broken finger) is day to day after surgery.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - San Francisco 49ers Ward, Jimmie
FS Jimmie Ward (strained hamstring) sat out Tuesday's workout, but
doesn't appear to have suffered any kind of a setback in his rehab.
Ward cut short a workout before Sunday's game at Minnesota because
of pain in the hamstring. The 49ers have labeled that a minor
scar-tissue issue and not an aggravation of the injury. Ward remains
questionable for the regular-season opener.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - San Francisco 49ers Redmond, Will
CB Will Redmond (sprained ankle) did not practice Tuesday. The
second-year cornerback is in a 10-man battle for roster spots at his
position and would benefit by being healthy enough to play in
Thursday's preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers. He
hasn't played since the preseason opener against Kansas City.
-----------------------------------------------
[to top of second column] |
NFL Note - San Francisco 49ers Porter, Sean
OLB Sean Porter was waived Tuesday. He signed with the 49ers as a
free agent earlier this month after having been released by the
Jacksonville Jaguars in the offseason. Porter played a total of only
five snaps in the 49ers' three preseason games.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - San Francisco 49ers McDonald, Vance
TE Vance McDonald was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday.
The 49ers also sent the Steelers a fifth-round draft choice, and
received Pittsburgh's fourth-rounder in exchange. McDonald caught 24
passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns as the 49ers' starter last
season.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Philadelphia Eagles Foles, Nick
QB Nick Foles, who is expected to be the backup to starter Carson
Wentz this season, probably won't play in Thursday night's final
preseason game against the New York Jets. He has been nursing a sore
elbow most of training camp and has practiced just two times in the
last 3 1/2 weeks.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Philadelphia Eagles Lovato, Rick

of Jon Dorenbos. Dorenbos had been the team's long snapper since
2006.

Thursday against the Jets. Starter Carson Wentz isn't going to play.

expects to be ready for the season opener against Washington on
Sept. 10.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Philadelphia Eagles Clement, Corey
RB Corey Clement, an undrafted free agent, is fighting for a roster
spot. The former Wisconsin star has played well, but probably will
end up on the team's practice squad.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Tennessee Titans Marz, Tyler
T Tyler Marz, an undrafted rookie in 2016 who spent the whole season
on the practice squad, replaced Quinton Spain at left guard
following Spain's ejection.

individual work after being out with an ankle injury.

S Curtis Riley continues to miss time with a hamstring injury and
won't play versus the Chiefs.

has already been ruled out of Thursday's game in Kansas City.
-----------------------------------------------

program and returned to practice. He was wearing a black no-contact

QB Kellen Clemens will get an extended look in Thursday's game as he
tries to hold on to the backup job.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Benjamin, Travis
WR Travis Benjamin continues to have one of the best summers among
the Chargers. He's shown his speed and a more reliable pair of hands
in the preseason. If he can stretch the field with his ability to
run by people, that opens the middle for the tight ends and even
Melvin Gordon and the running game. Benjamin looks faster than at
any time last year.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Williams, *Mike
WR Michael Williams (back), the team's top pick, continues to look
as if he will start the season on PUP.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Jones, Jamaal
WR Jamaal Jones is in the running for a roster spot with Michael
Williams (back) ailing.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Davis, Geremy
WR Geremy Davis could make the roster at one of the team's deepest
positions. With Michael Williams (back) being out it's opened a door
for Davis.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Ekeler, Austin
RB Austin Ekeler is making a bid for a roster spot. A big game
against the 49ers might push him up a depth chart that is pretty
open.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Rochell, Isaac
DE Isaac Rochell, a seventh-round pick, might have earned a spot
with his special-teams play. He needs a solid game on Thursday.
-----------------------------------------------
NFL Note - Los Angeles Chargers Harris, Nigel
ILB Nigel Harris, once a dark horse to make the cut, could slip by.
Not only has he played well but starter Denzel Perryman (ankle) is
out the first two months.
