The Lady Railers hosted the
Galesburg Silver Streak Tuesday night at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium
and with a nice 45-23 win Lincoln improved their record to 7-1 on
the season.
Back to back threes by Emma Konczyk and Kaelyn Froebe to start the
game ignited the Lady Railers offense right from the tip-off. Throw
in a couple steals by the Lolling sisters that pretty much
guarantees Railer baskets will follow and Lincoln was having no
trouble extending the lead.
Your typical bank shot by Leah Schneider and a floater in the lane
by Froebe kept the Lady Railers rolling in the first quarter. At the
end of one it was Lincoln commanding a 14-5 lead.
The Lady Railers kept up the good work in the second quarter. Froebe
got a bucket to bounce in to make the score 16-7. Konczyk drove
through the lane to toss one in and maintain the Lincoln lead at
18-9. Finally Morgan Lolling dished one in under the basket on the
assist from Froebe and Lincoln was up 20-11. That score would not
change for the next four minutes and Lincoln went to locker room
with breathing room in this one.
The second half maybe got a little more physical but that never
seems to bother the Lincoln girls. Galesburg just got a little
frustrated at the pesky defense Lincoln plays and a few elbows were
seen flying through the air.
Coach Taylor Richmond’s squad stays right on track throughout it
all. At the end of the third quarter Lincoln was up 26-18.
The fourth quarter the Lady Railers decided to shut down the Silver
Streak early. Konczyk fought her way through the lane for a basket
and then Froebe quieted the Galesburg crowd with a three to make the
score 31-18. Morgan Lolling then bounced one in from the paint and a
minute later Froebe hit two free throws to extend the lead to 35-18.
Galesburg was obviously frustrated and Lincoln just kept agitating
them. After a couple baskets in the lane by Schneider, Lincoln had
doubled up the score on the Silver Streak 42-21.
With under two minutes to play, thank goodness no one walked away
bloody in this one, and it was Lincoln getting the 45-23 win.
The Lady Railers improve their season record to 7-1 and will travel
to Bloomington Thursday night.
