The team’s outstanding start to the season was
recognized this week by the latest National Junior College
Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men’s Basketball poll which has the
Lynx ranked #2 in the nation among Division II colleges. LC
moved up seven spots from preseason rankings that had the team
at #9.
Lincoln College Coach Pat Lepper is pleased with the success his
team has enjoyed so far. “It’s great to be recognized nationally
for all of our hard work and performance,” said Lepper. “Our
guys have bought in and worked to together well as a team which
has resulted in a strong start to the year.”
Against Eureka, the Lynx lead by 15 at halftime (47-32) and were
able to extend that lead to as many as 25 in the second half.
Some intense defensive pressure put on by LC lead to a huge
turnover advantage. Lincoln forced 26 turnovers in the game
while only giving the ball up five times to their opponents.
Lincoln used a balanced offensive attack against EC that saw
five players score in double digits. Sophomore guard Trayvon
Tyler (Rockford) led the team in scoring with 19 points going 6
for 12 from the field with five of those buckets coming from
three-point range. Washington High School grad Louis Griffin was
next in scoring with 17 points. Griffin also had three steals
and three assists. Freshman Edwin Rivera (Puerto Rico) turned in
a solid all-around performance by grabbing a team-high seven
rebounds, scoring 13 points and was credited with three assists.
“Our starters did a nice job of setting the tone early and
keeping the pace of the game under our control,” said Coach
Lepper. “They all worked hard and played at a high level
throughout the game.”
