“This team has worked hard for the past three
months, so it’s rewarding to see them recognized with a national
ranking,” said Lincoln Head Coach Matt Vavro. “Our players have
great chemistry, probably the best of any group I have coached.
Their confidence is growing, and I know this will only encourage
them to work even harder.”
The news comes a day after LC (11-0) defeated Southwestern
Illinois College (SWIC) 94-53. The Lady Lynx took on SWIC for
the second time this year. In their first meeting, Lincoln
earned a 74-56 victory. In that game, LC struggled in the early
going and had to battle their way through some sloppy play. In
their rematch, Lincoln was sharp from the opening tip and led
from start to finish. The Lady Lynx took a 45-26 lead into
halftime and did not let up in the second half as they rolled to
a decisive 41 point win.
LC sophomore Erynn Young (Indianapolis) had a huge night for her
team. Young was involved in the action on both ends of the court
as she had 21 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, 8 steals and 7
blocks. Fellow sophomore and Indiana native Emoni Smith tied
Young for the team lead in points with 21. Smith went 5 for 8
from beyond the three-point arc and pulled down a team-high 9
rebounds. Freshman guard Allysah Boothe (Chcicago) had 19 points
while sophomore guard Nautica Preston (Chicago) dished out 11
assists.
Coach Vavro saw many positive signs from his team’s performance.
He stated, “It was good to see everybody get in the scoring
book. We shared the ball great as we had 25 assists and
connected on a season high 13 three pointers. I thought we got
after it defensively which showed up in the stats as we forced
28 turnovers, had 11 blocks and got 15 steals.”
Lincoln will be off until December 11th when they travel to
Decatur, IL to take on the Millikin University JV at 2:30 pm.
