Lincoln Christmas Parade delights everyone with "let it snow" theme

[December 13, 2017]   LINCOLN - On Thursday evening, in spite of it being only 26 degrees, several folks came out to enjoy what was one of the largest parades through downtown Lincoln anyone has seen in a while.

The theme for this year's parade was "Let it snow." To the delight of parade organizers, it did not actually snow this year. However, many entries utilized the theme well with snow flakes, snowmen, and much more.

There were more than 70 entries this year that included many local businesses and churches along with other groups and organizations.

The Grand Marshal for the night, Dennis Reves, was placed at the head of the parade,and rode in a convertible waving to friends and thanking everyone for coming out. Another nice trio was the three young ladies who represent Logan County royalty. The Logan County Queen Meg Meeker, Junior Miss Karson Mott, and Little Miss Elliana Park managed their best "queenly" smiles and waves in the frigid temperatures.

Another fun entry was that from Mayor Seth Goodman and the city of Lincoln. Many enjoyed the heat that came into the area when Goodman shot off the flames from his hot air balloon basket, and as some called out for him to perform that task, he joked that all they really wanted was the heat! Lincoln Aldermen walked along with Goodman.

The Lincoln Community High School Marching Band put on a great performance. With uniforms that are already red and green with black, band members donned Santa hats and looked very merry for the parade.

Of course, for many children, the best Santa hat was the one worn by Santa Claus himself. He and Mrs. Claus brought up the rear of the parade happily calling out to people gathered along the parade route while heading to their final destination, the Lincoln Public Library Annex.

At the library, Santa and Mrs. Claus were given a cozy warm spot to visit with children after the parade. Kids came to whisper their wishes in Santa's ear, receive a candy cane, and enjoy other sweet refreshments provided by Small Town Creations, a new business in Lincoln.
