The Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois Senior Nutrition Program is proud to announce that it will be participating in the tenth annual Subaru Share the Love Event as a member of Meals on Wheels America – one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the promotion. Through January 2, 2018, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer's choice of participating charity.

“The support given through Subaru’s Share the Love Event is such a beautiful example of what it takes to help the seniors in our community remain independent and healthy,” said Becky Leamon, Nutrition Services Director, CAPCIL Senior Nutrition Program. “The amount we receive through participation in the Meals on Wheels America Share the Love Event will allow our program to help provide adequate nutrition seniors needs to live healthier and happier and enables them to feel less isolated while remaining in their own home.”

Participating Meals on Wheels America members, like CAPCIL’s Senior Nutrition Program, will receive a share of the donation raised by Subaru in their state. CAPCIL has partnered with Green Subaru in Springfield to raise awareness for the popular year-end sales and giving event. Green Subaru will host a Stuff the Subaru food drive for shelf-stable food items that participants in CAPCIL’s Senior Nutrition program can keep on hand for emergencies such as bad weather when drivers cannot reach them. Accepted donations such as single serve, shelf-stable items such as soup, crackers, fruit and vegetable cups, V-8 juice, granola bars and cookies can be dropped off at the Green Subaru Dealership located at 3801 Wabash Ave in Springfield or at CAPCIL Corporate Office located at 1800 Fifth Street in Lincoln anytime during December.

“For the past ten years, Subaru of America has partnered alongside the Meals on Wheels network to deliver nutrition, companionship and comfort to our nation’s most vulnerable seniors,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO, Meals on Wheels America. “Since 2008, Subaru’s Share the Love Event has helped deliver more than 1.7 million meals to seniors served by Meals on Wheels. Funds raised through this year’s event will come at a critical time for the Meals on Wheels network, allowing our boots on the ground to deliver even more of these critically needed services.”

This year marks the automaker's 50th Anniversary in the U.S. and, for the second year in a row, there will be no cap on the total donation from Subaru of America to its Share the Love charitable partners. At the culmination of this year, Subaru hopes to exceed a grand total of $115 million donated since the creation of Share the Love to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the event. In November of 2017, CAPCIL was selected as one of 50 agencies across the U.S. to receive a brand new 2018 Subaru Outback for the Meals on Wheels Senior Nutrition Program.

“Thank You for all you do to assist those in need.” Said John Frantz, Central Region Director of Subaru of America, Inc. The focus was/is all about Meals on Wheels and the services provided. We are confident the Outback is being put to good use for the benefit of many.”
