Obituary
Anita Beryl King of Lincoln, went home to be with Christ on
Sunday, December 17th, 2017.
Anita was under the care of the Christian Village
following a lengthy hospital stay. The family wishes
to thank the Village staff for the excellent care
she received while there.
Anita was born November 14th, 1932 to Enos and
Thelma (nee King) Dowling in Lebanon Indiana. She
was united in marriage to Robert King December 14th,
1952. Although this union did not last, they were
blessed with three children; Nancy (Mike) Roti,
Barry (Julie) King and Jeffrey (Barbra) King. Her
children survive her. She treasured her family.
Anita attended Lincoln Christian Church. She was a
woman of many interests and talents. She was an
accomplished seamstress making many of her families
clothing as well as sewing custom doll clothes. She
was a member of several doll clubs and used her
considerable skill and knowledge to make or repair
dolls. Anita has an extensive collection of dolls
numbering close to 1000.
Anita loved miniatures and expanded her crafting
into making doll houses and miniature homes. This
includes a replica of the Lincoln Home of
Springfield. Her Lincoln Home replica was featured
on an episode of Illinois Stories with Mike McDonald
in 2003 to coincide with Lincoln’s birthday. The
Lincoln Home has been gifted to the Mount Pulaski
Courthouse historical society so that it can be
enjoyed for years to come. |
She also created an entire village
complete with church and cemetery and accompanying
story line. The village features foods, books,
furniture and accessories and landscaping all made
by Anita.
Most recently Anita sculpted clay birds and animals
to give as gifts to her family and special friends.
Animals held a special place in Anita’s life over
the years. She once bred both dogs and cats. Her
final companion was her shi-tzu Baby, who misses her
very much.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, brother
Kingsley and niece Judy.
Along with her children she is survived by her
nephews Terry Dowling, Duke Dowling and Matt
Dowling, grandchildren Erin (Stephen) Moss, Andrew
Roti, Kristen (Daniel) Shipley, Christopher King,
Kara (Chad) Paul and Josh King as well as five
great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to The Humane Society or
animal foundation of the donor’s choice.
Graveside service will be held in Old Pleasant Hill
Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. on December 27, 2017 at
1 p.m. There will be a celebration of life in
Lincoln, at a later date.
Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home has been
entrusted with her care.
