of Atlanta, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving
family, on Sunday, January 29, 2017. |
Graveside services: Wednesday,
February 1, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Atlanta
Cemetery.

Obituary
Joyce A. Compton, 80, of Atlanta, passed away at her
home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday,
January 29, 2017.
Graveside services for Mrs. Compton will be held on
Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the
Atlanta Cemetery. Mr. Andy Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery.
Joyce Ann Johnson was born June 29, 1936, in
Atlanta, the daughter of Oren Brock and Alma Leesman
Johnson. She married Orville E. "Speed" Compton on
July 10, 1954. He preceded Joyce in death on March
25, 2012.
Joyce is survived by their children: Peggy Aper of
Atlanta, Susan (Dean) Benedict of Atlanta, and
Matthew (Nancy) Compton of Colorado Springs; nieces
Shelly (Randy) Brooks of Atlanta and Julie (Paul)
Homan of El Paso, to whom she was a caring mother;
six grandchildren: Angie Neville of Atlanta,
Elizabeth (Darrell) Miller of Danvers, Elaina (R.J.)
Romani of Washburn, Lyndi (Kory) Leesman of
Hartsburg, and Meghan and Rachel Compton of Colorado
Springs; five great-grandchildren: Kolton Neville,
Raelyn and Clayto Romani, and Levi and Luke "Little
Speed" Leesman; one brother: James L. (Barbara)
Johnson of Minier; two cousins: Gaylord Wikle of
Waynesville and Ben Leesman of Florida; and several
nieces and nephews. |
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Jane Bottoms and
Judy Ford; and one son-in-law: Ron Aper.
Joyce was a 1954 graduate of Atlanta High School. She had served
as president of the Atlanta VFW Post 1824 Auxiliary. Joyce
enjoyed reading, playing cards, crocheting, hunting for morel
mushrooms, and fishing at Patterson Bay.
Memorials may be made to the Atlanta Christian Church or the
Atlanta Public Library.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral
Home.
