Hartsburg-Emden boys fall to Illini Bluffs 71-55

[February 04, 2017]  The Hartem boys basketball team lost on the road Friday night at Illini Bluffs 71-55. The Stags fought hard for three quarters before the Tigers put up 22 points in the fourth quarter and ran away with the victory.

 

 

At the end of the first quarter the Stags trailed 21-13 but by the half Hartem had closed the gap a little.

The Tigers held a 34-29 advantage at halftime.

The Stags managed to outscore the Tigers in the third quarter and make a game of it. In that quarter Hartem was led by Antonio Coit-Kirk’s 10 points and 8 points from Brady Wolpert.

Heading into the final quarter the Stags trailed by just 49-47. Even though the Stags held the Tigers leading scorer Taylor Bruninga scoreless in the second half of the game, the rest of the Illini Bluffs team stepped up.

Illini Bluffs outscored Hartem 22-8 in the final eight minutes to take the 71-55 win.

Antonio Coit-Kirk led all scorers with 22 points and Brady Wolpert contributed 16 points. Brody Baker was also back in his first game since suffering an ankle injury at the Auburn Tournament and he chipped in 8 points.

Illini Bluffs placed five players in double figures as they improved to 21-4 on the season.

Hartem continues playing on the road this week with a Tuesday night game at Tremont.
