Lincoln College adds four Bachelor’s Degree Programs for Fall 2017
Community and Human Services, Conservation Biology, Exercise Science, & Vocal Performance among Degree Programs

 

[February 07, 2017]  LINCOLN - Lincoln College is pleased to announce the expansion of its bachelor’s degree programs. Starting in fall 2017, students will be able to major in Community and Human Services, Conservation Biology, Exercise Science, and Vocal Performance in addition to the College’s thirteen degrees already offered at its two campuses. The addition of the degrees is part of Lincoln College’s expansion plan to return to its roots as a four-year institution.

The Higher Learning Commission, Lincoln College’s accrediting body, approved the degrees this week.

“The addition of these four bachelor’s degree programs is essential to the growth of the college and the diversity of degree options we can provide our students,” said Dr. David Gerlach, President of Lincoln College. “Students will gain theoretical knowledge in their classes as well as practical experience through community projects and internships, making our students very marketable to future employers.”

The addition of the degree programs is timely as the College purchased apartments at the north end of campus earlier this month in preparation of housing additional students.

The College anticipates adding an additional 100 students during the fall 2017 semester on top of this year’s already record-setting year.

New students and transfer students can select one of the new majors from the College’s offerings during the admission process. Current students can declare or change their major with their academic advisor.

Program descriptions for the new majors are listed below:


The Bachelor of Arts in Community and Human Services is an interdisciplinary program preparing students for graduate study in social work or careers in service to others in individual and community settings. Students will take courses in sociology, psychology, and community and human services to integrate knowledge and understanding of the socio-economic culture which community and human services are delivered. In addition to a junior year practicum, the program culminates in an internship with a human services agency to provide students with experience in applying theory to professional practice.


The Bachelor of Science in Conservation Biology is an interdisciplinary program, challenging students to utilize skills and knowledge from a variety of scientific fields in order to address complex environmental issues. This degree is grounded in natural science and mathematics. Students will engage in student-generated, on-going research projects utilizing Creekside: Lincoln College’s Outdoor Center for Environmental Education. The program culminates with an internship allowing students to gain additional practical experience in the field. After completion of the program, students will be prepared for employment in the field or advanced study in graduate school.

The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science prepares students for careers in the four principle fitness sectors of sport, industry, health and education including entry-level positions as an exercise specialist in community, corporate, or clinical settings. The program is also designed to establish a strong foundation for graduate study in exercise physiology. Students take courses in anatomy and physiology, the biomechanics of human movement and the application of these concepts to applied exercise and therapeutic rehabilitation to promote a healthy lifestyle in individuals and communities. The program culminates with an internship allowing students to apply their knowledge to real world settings.

The Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance prepares students for careers in performing and private studio teaching and for advanced study of voice and graduate level. The program provides students with the study of technique, theoretical concepts and interpretation while granting them performance opportunities. Students have the opportunity to perform right away and continue to have these opportunities throughout the program. The program culminates with a senior recital demonstrating mastery of all learning outcomes.

Students on the main campus at Lincoln College can earn degrees in the following majors: Business Management; Community and Human Services; Conservation Biology; Criminal Justice Studies; Exercise Science; Jazz Studies; Radio, Television, and New Media; Sport Management; Theatre; and Vocal Performance.

Students in the Accelerated Bridge to Education program can major in Business Management, Criminal Justice Studies, Entrepreneurship, General Studies, Health Services Administration, Liberal Arts, Organizational Leadership, Sport Management, Supply Chain and Logistics Management.
