“Something new this year is the addition of several artists who
have never displayed at the Lincoln Art Institute. Logan County Arts
is definitely growing”, said Lincoln Art Institute Curator Moses
			Pinkerton.
The opening drew work by Jeff Williams, a member of The Pharmacy,
the Springfield Art Cooperative. The Lincoln Art Institute is
gaining a reputation as a welcoming atmosphere and beautiful space
			for artists throughout central Illinois.

and member of The Pharmacy art cooperative in Springfield.

Attendance at the monthly openings at the Lincoln Art Institute has
been growing, each show drawing new attendees for the events and
larger crowds. Live music is a staple for the art openings now, and
a delicious appetizer array prepared by the members of Logan County
			Arts.

The art on the walls of the LAI showed many interpretations of the
idea of a portrait. Many were self-portraits while others captured
profiles of friends. “This show was a lot of fun for me. I was able
to show the physical properties of my subjects as well as the subtle
aspects of personality,” said artist Suzanne Faulkner.

“My collage was a walk down memory lane and self-reflection,” said
artist Nancy Rollings Saul. Her piece “Half a Century” is a review
			of her life.

Local artist Lee Dowling joined the show with one of her wonderful
portraits. Ms. Dowling will give a one person show at the Lincoln
Art Institute in April. She has been an artist working in Lincoln
for many years going back to the years when Virginia Higgins, Jim
McCarthy, Mrs. Parsons, and Emilie Fox formed an artist’s colony in
			Lincoln.

The March show will be a unique two person event featuring artists
Kira Jackson and Rob Swofford, members of Logan County Arts. “These
two young artists are committed to establishing themselves in the
art world, but on totally different paths,” said Pam Moriearty. The
show will be entitled “Two Journeys.”

Kira Jackson is currently finishing her studies at Heartland
Community College. She has already been accepted into the
prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and will be
moving to the city to begin her journey at the Art Institute in
August. Being accepted into the Art Institute program is affirmation
that her potential has been recognized by the prominent school. To
add to that accolade, she was awarded a generous scholarship. In
addition to her art credentials and contributions to Logan County
Arts, Kira has also been handling the social media presence of LCA
			and the Lincoln Art Institute.
“Portraits & Profiles” will run until the end of the month.
Contact Moses Pinkerton for hours at 217-651-8355. Private showings
			can be arranged.

Moses will also be able to discuss membership in Logan County Arts.
The organization holds a membership meeting once a month, and is all
			about encouraging artists.
