[February 17, 2017] Feb 16 (The Sports Xchange) - With the NFL Draft fast approaching and rumors growing about a possible trade of backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, the New England Patriots have started talking about extending quarterback Tom Brady's contract.

The 39-year-old is signed through the 2019 season and has a cap hit of $14 million in 2017 and $22 million in both 2018 and 2019, the Boston Herald reported.

Brady will be 42 when his current contract expires. On Sunday, he told Peter King of MMQB.com that he would like to play well into his 40s.

"I'd like to play until my mid-40s," the five-time Super Bowl winner told King during an interview while in Montana on a family vacation.

"Then I'll make a decision. If I'm still feeling like I'm feeling today, who knows? Now, those things can always change. You do need long-term goals too. I know next year is not going to be my last year."

Signing wide receiver Antonio Brown to a long-term extension is a "priority" this offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brown has one year remaining on his current contract worth $4.71 million. He was originally due to earn $8.71 this season before a 2016 restructuring moved $4 million of 2017 salary to 2016.

The 28-year-old Brown, who has caught more than 100 passes in each of the last four seasons, said earlier this week his agents are negotiating with the Steelers.

The Miami Dolphins are expected to release two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Branden Albert, according to multiple reports.

Albert will not be the lone big-name casualty as Miami is expected to part with veteran defensive end Mario Williams and defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, the Miami Herald reported.

Albert is slated to cost $10.6 million against the cap for the upcoming season, but the projected move would save the Dolphins $7.2 million in cap space.

Williams recorded a career-low 1.5 sacks in 2016 after signing a two-year, $17 million deal with the Dolphins. Mitchell finished with 17 tackles during an injury-ravaged campaign in 2016 and is scheduled to make $4 million this year.

The Buffalo Bills and linebacker Ramon Humber agreed to terms on a contract.

Terms of the deal were not divulged by the Bills for Humber, who recorded a team high-tying 12 special teams tackles last season.

Former New Orleans Saints receiver Robert Meachem was released from jail after three days of incarceration when he made a $100,000 alimony and child support payment to his ex-wife.

Meachem and his wife separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2015 after six years of marriage. They share split custody of their two children.

Former NFL quarterback Vince Young hired agent Leigh Steinberg in a bid to help the 33-year-old find a new home in the NFL.

Young last played a snap with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011.

A former NFL Rookie of the Year and two-time Pro Bowler, Young was last on a roster in 2014 when he spent some two weeks with the Cleveland Browns before announcing his retirement.

Former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White has a bone to pick with Kyle Shanahan following the latter's play-calling that led to a 25-point lead evaporating against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI.

"I'm glad I wasn't a part of that team because I probably literally would've fought him," White told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

White, who spent 11 seasons with the Falcons, took issue with Shanahan's decision not to run the ball after Julio Jones' catch put Atlanta in field-goal range in the fourth quarter.

Shanahan was the team's offensive coordinator before accepting the head-coaching job with the San Francisco 49ers. (Editing by Larry Fine) ))
