The Lincoln College Men's
Volleyball team hosted two events this weekend. On Friday night, the
Lynx (#16) took on Nationally ranked Davenport University (#3). LC
grabbed the momentum early in set one behind the strong middle play
of sophomores Michael Wesley and Deantrius Coleman. Wesley recorded
three of his team high nine kills in the set and Coleman was
dominant as a blocker at the net. Their solid efforts helped Lincoln
take the opening set 26-24. In set two, Davenport responded with a
strong effort from start to finish and won it 25-17. The Lynx did
not let the setback frustrate them though, as they regrouped to take
set three 25-22 and set four 25-20. In the match, sophomore outside
hitter Kyle Murphy was able to match Michael Wesley's total of nine
kills. Murphy also served four points and had seven digs. Sophomore
setter/right side Greg Scott played a solid all-around game by
chipping in eight kills, four point and 22 set assists. The win
improved Lincoln to 13-3 on the season.
On Saturday, Lincoln hosted a seven-team tournament that featured
strong teams teams from throughout the Mid-West. Participants
included Davenport University (MI), Grand View State (MI), Loras
College JV (IA), St, Ambrose JV (IA), Missouri Baptist JV (MO), and
the LC "A" and "B" teams. LC "B" went 0-3-1 during pool play and
gave #3 seeded Davenport a real run for their money in the first
single-elimination round match. Lincoln came out fired up, and built
a three point lead that they were able to protect for most of the
set, but they eventually fell to DU 24-26, 17-25. In that match, LC
was led in kills by outside hitter Kenny Koster with five and in
points scored by setter Jake Fleming with seven.

The LC "A" team went 3-0-1 to earn the top seed coming out of pool
play and a bye through the first round of single-elimination
matches. Lincoln faced Loras College JV in the semi-final which
turned out to be a real thriller. The Lynx jumped out to a six-point
lead in set one, but had to survive a comeback bid by Loras to win
it 28-26. In set two, LC was unable to put Loras away and dropped it
24-26. That set up a deciding set to 15 which again was controlled
in the early going by the Lynx, but unforced errors let Loras gain
the upper hand and win the set 15-13. LC "A" settled for a third
place finish in the tournament which was eventually won by Davenport
University. DU defeated Loras in the final 25-22, 25-21. Lincoln
College middle hitter Michael Wesley was named to the All-Tournament
team. Wesley had 18 kills and 12 blocks on the day.
