Capitals 5, Penguins 2
Alex Ovechkin scored two goals to surpass the 1,000-point mark
for his career, and the Washington Capitals defeated the
Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Wednesday night at Verizon Center for
their seventh consecutive win.
Braden Holtby stopped 30 shots for Washington. Nicklas Backstrom
had a goal and three assists, and T.J. Oshie also registered
three assists. Justin Williams and Lars Eller also scored.
Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist scored for the Penguins.
Canadiens 7, Jets 4
Montreal got a two goals each from Phillip Danault and Artturi
Lehkonen and singles from Tomas Plekanac, Brian Flynn and Sven
Andrighetto while Al Montoya stopped 23 shots in a win at
Winnipeg.
Mark Scheifele scored twice and Bryan Little, Mathieu Perreault
one each for the Jets.
Panthers 2, Islanders 1
Jason Demers scored the go-ahead goal early in the second period
as Florida edged New York at Barclays Center in a rematch of
last spring's Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
Jason Yandle also scored for the Panthers, who won their second
straight. Florida also snapped a six-game stretch in which it
alternated losses with wins.
Nick Leddy scored for the Islanders, who lost their third
straight game, all by 2-1 scores. New York goalie Thomas Greiss
made 22 saves.
Flames 3, Sharks 2
Dougie Hamilton's goal with 2:19 left in the third period and
Chad Johnson made huge stops late as Calgary skated over San
Jose.
Michael Frolik and Matthew Tkachuk also scored for the Flames.
Johnson made 23 saves.
Brent Burns and Logan Couture scored for the Sharks.
