On Friday evening, they hosted former LC standout Manuel Benitez
and the Greenville College (NCAA DIII) varsity team. In the JV
match, Lincoln went down 32-30, 25-18, 25-22.
The Lynx were led in kills by freshman right side hitter Charles
Carter (10) and assists by freshman setter Jake Fleming (24). In the
varsity match. Lincoln battled hard but again fell to Greenville in
three sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-22).
Lincoln bounced back quickly from the defeat to play much better on
Saturday at the Trinity Christian College triangular.
LC did not drop a set on the day as they first handled
Campbellsville University from Kentucky(NAIA) 25-22, 25-21, 25-16,
then took down the host school, Trinity Christian (NAIA), 25-19,
25-17, 25-16.
The steady passing and defense of sophomore outside Kyle Murphy,
freshman libero Dylan Russin, and freshman DS Michael Konczal helped
set the tone for LC. The improved ball control led to better
opportunities for the team to run their offense which resulted in a
number of Lynx players reaching double digits in kills including
sophomore right side hitter Greg Scott (15), Murphy (14) and Carter
(14).
Next up for LC will be a trip to the St. Louis area on Saturday for
the varsity team to participate in a club tournament at SIU-E and
the JV squad to play a match at MO Baptist University against their
JV.

LC Coach Mark Tippett: "I am very pleased with the way this team
performed in our first action of the season. We have only really had
about two weeks of practices and for many of our first-year players
this was their first taste of college volleyball. They had a tough
assignment the first night going up against the Greenville varsity
team. I was impressed by how well we competed with them. Every set
was close up until the end, when we seemed to find a way to drop a
couple of quick points and stop ourselves from finishing off the
set. That problem was fixed quickly though because on Saturday we
played well in all aspects of the game. Our passing was much more
consistent and defensively we played more as a unit. Both of the
teams we beat were strong hitting teams with experienced players.
The wins should give us a lot of confidence going into our club
season in February."
