Carroll Catholic celebrates Catholic Schools week with a full week of special activities

 

[January 30, 2017]  LINCOLN - In honor of Catholic Schools week, January 30th through February 3rd, students at Carroll Catholic will enjoy a long list of special activities, including a daily theme and a special dress option.

MONDAY

On Monday the theme for the day is “In our Community.” The dress theme for the day will be “Black Tie.” Boys are to wear ties or bowties and girls are asked to wear dresses

At 11:15 a.m. will be the Kick-off assembly for Catholic Schools Week. Lincoln Mayor Marty Neitzel will read the mayor’s proclamation and Father Laible will lead the prayer service.

At 11:30 a.m. will be a community luncheon.

The service project for the day will be monetary donations for spaghetti dinners to donate to the Holy Family Food pantry.

TUESDAY

The theme for the day will be “celebrating vocations.” Dress for the day will be “Pajama Day.”

At 1 p.m. students will team up with their church buddies to play Catholic Bingo.

The Service project for the day will be to write letters and cards to the seminarians at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary. Danny McShane is a current seminarian and has made many visits to our school. We love it that he shares his journey into the vocations.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday will be uniform day with special emphasis on color in honor of the theme “Celebrating the Nation.” Pre-school through first grade should wear red polo shirts. Second=graders through fifth grade should wear their blue polo’s, and sixth through eighth grade students should wear their white polo shirts.

The special event for the day will be attendance at the Children’s Mass at 8:30 a.m.

There will be two service projects for the day.

Students are encouraged to invite veterans, servicemen and women to join us for lunch. We would like to visit with them and hear their stories of their service. Menu: Nachos, Romaine/Spinach salad, granola bar, mandarin oranges.

Sr. Mary Lou will lead the rosary at 2:10 p.m. Special prayers will be said the Nation.

THURSDAY

On Thursday, the theme will be “Celebrating our students.” The dress for the day will have a theme of “places you’ve been.” Students may wear tourist t-shirts and accessories.

A special lunch will be served. The Carroll Catholic Student Council has organized for Stuffed Aria pizza to be delivered. To stay with a healthy lunch, we’ll have the pizza along with side dishes. Students will be charged the normal lunch fee of $2.80. If a student wants to bring a cold lunch they may still do so.

At 1 p.m. Students will participate in Zumba Warm-up and Minute-to-win-it games

The service project for the day will be to beautify the school in their classrooms and around the building. They will also be sharing their thoughts on their education at CCS. Their thoughts will be hung around the school.

FRIDAY

Catholic Schools week will wrap up on Friday will a day of special activities.

The theme for the day will be “celebrating faculty, staff, and volunteers. Students may wear their Crusader Spiritwear.

From 11:0 to 12:30 will be the Special Guest luncheon. Students may invite their grandparents, parents or relatives to join them for lunch. Students will be called to the cafeteria by their last names: (A-L) 11:35am – 12:05pm and (M-Z) 12:05pm – 12:35pm Menu: Spaghetti, garlic bread, Romaine/Spinach salad, pears.

Guests are encouraged to wear their old or new CCS logo spirit wear. There will also be a time of classroom visits for the special guests.

At 1 p.m., there will be a special musical performance by students in the gymnasium

From 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening will be Family Skate Night. The evening will run on a time schedule that includes a time of skating followed by a pizza supper.

The schedule is as follows:

• 5:00 – 5:30pm – PS & PK students skate; 5:30–6:30pm – invited to eat pizza
• 5:30 – 6:30pm – K – 4th students skate; 6:30-7:30pm – invited to eat pizza
• 6:30 – 7:30pm – 5th – 8th students skate; 5:30-6:30pm – invited to eat pizza
• Parents are welcome to skate all night.

The Friday service project will be “Souper Bowl” Friday. Students are asked to bring cans of soup for the Holy Family Food Pantry.

Other events include roller skating during morning recess.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday grades three through eight may roller skate.

On Tuesday and Thursday students in Pre-K through second grade may roller skate.

If a student chooses not to participate in the special dress days, they must then wear their school uniform.
