On
Wednesday afternoon, Cadillac cars invaded Logan County via Route
66. The 75 strong road tour group, hosted by the Cadillac-LaSalle
Car Club began the Route 66 journey in the Chicagoland area,
spending multiple days and nights making their way the to Chain of
Rocks Bridge and other Route 66 sites near St. Louis.

The group made their first stop in Logan County in Atlanta, a town
rich with Route 66 sites and history. They enjoyed stretching their
legs as they walked around town and visited the Bunyon Statue, the
various shops in town and other sites, before sitting down to a
delicious meal at the Palms Grill Cafe.
In Atlanta, Bill Thomas said that having the club include his
community in their tour was the result of a by-chance meeting
between Thomas and a member of the club who was in the Palms nearly
a year ago having lunch. Thomas and the club member struck up a
conversation, and when all was said and done, the member said he
would work to get Atlanta added to the tour scheduled for the
following year - this year.
The club had several stops on their agenda, but not
Lincoln, until the very last minute. Geoff Ladd, speaking on behalf
of the Mill on Route 66 Museum said that when the trip was planned
the Mill was not ready for tourists. However, after the Mill opened,
the car club determined that it would make the stop at the Mill if
their schedule would allow.

Ladd noted it was past president of the CLCC who worked to include
the Mill in the many stops the club had planned for their week-long
drive.
The nice part about this club was that it appeared that age made no
difference. Drivers pulled into the parking spaces in Atlanta in
beautiful big Cadillacs, some quite old, and others much younger,
but all exuding that touch of class that comes with a Cadillac. Cars
and drivers came from all around the Midwest to participate in the
tour. According to the variety of license plates, vehicles had come
from Illinois but also Ohio, Massachusetts, Wisconsin and other
states.
