Dodgers 1, Diamondbacks 0
Left-hander Alex Wood struck out 10 in seven innings to improve to
10-0 in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 1-0 victory against the Arizona
Diamondbacks on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.
Los Angeles scored in the second inning. Chris Taylor singled up the
middle with one out, and Yasmani Grandal hit the first pitch from
Arizona starter Zack Godley (3-3) into the left-center-field gap for
a standup double and his third RBI of the series.
The first-place Dodgers moved 4 1/2 games in front of the
Diamondbacks in the NL West standings with their 22nd win in 26
games and fifth shutout since June 20.
Astros 10, Braves 4
George Springer, Jose Altuve and Josh Reddick went a combined
8-for-15 with six RBIs as Houston routed Atlanta for the second
straight night.
The same trio went 10-for-16 with nine RBIs in the previous game --
a 16-4 rout of the Braves on Tuesday. Houston has won 20 of its past
23 games on the road and is 7-0 in interleague play this season.
Springer, who scored three times Wednesday, and Altuve each had
three hits, and Reddick drove in three runs with a pair of doubles.
The Astros had seven doubles for the third consecutive game, and
Marwin Gonzalez joined Reddick with three RBIs.
Brewers 4, Orioles 0
Matt Garza pitched 6 1/3 innings, and Keon Broxton hit a two-run
homer as the Milwaukee finished off a three-game sweep of Baltimore.
Garza (4-4) scattered five hits and two walks while striking out
four to earn his first victory in four starts. Broxton, who snapped
an 0-for-15 skid a day earlier, homered for the first time since
June 25.
Padres 6, Indians 2
Cory Spangenberg homered, and Jose Pirela and Carlos Asuaje had
three hits apiece as San Diego beat Cleveland.
The Padres have won the first two contests of the three-game series
as the Indians continue to struggle at home and in interleague
action. Despite being in first place in the American League Central,
the Indians are 18-23 at Progressive Field and 2-11 in interleague
play.
Rangers 8, Red Sox 2
Andrew Cashner pitched seven strong innings, and Rougned Odor,
Jurickson Profar and Carlos Gomez each had two RBIs as Texas cooled
off Boston.
Cashner (4-7) picked up his first victory in more than a month while
snapping the Red Sox's six-game winning streak. He gave up two runs
(both unearned), three hits and three walks while striking out four.
Marlins 9, Cardinals 6
Giancarlo Stanton homered twice and drove in four runs as Miami
jumped out to a seven-run lead and held off St. Louis.
Marcell Ozuna also homered and knocked in two runs for the Marlins,
while Justin Bour added insurance with a ninth-inning homer. Dustin
McGowan (5-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings of one-run relief while AJ Ramos
earned his 15th save in 16 chances.

Rockies 5, Reds 3
Colorado right-hander Jon Gray pitched into the sixth inning and
belted his first career home run in Colorado's victory over
Cincinnati.
Gray's blast was a two-out, two-run shot in the second that soared
an estimated 467 feet to center field. It was the longest homer hit
by a Rockies player this season.
Pat Valaika belted his sixth homer, a two-run shot in the fourth
that gave Colorado a 4-1 lead after Gray yielded a run in the top of
the inning. Valaika had a career-high three hits and drove in a
third run with a two-out single in the eighth.
Royals 9, Mariners 6 (10 innings)
All-Star Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer in the top of the 10th
inning to break a tie as Kansas City completed a three-game sweep of
Seattle.

It was the fourth straight victory for the Royals.
Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain also hit two-run homers for Kansas
City. Moustakas homered in all three games in the series.
The Mariners' Mike Zunino, who homered earlier, nearly ended the
game leading off the bottom of the ninth against Minor. His deep fly
ball was caught by left fielder Alex Gordon against the wall as
Seattle lost its seventh straight at home.
Angels 2, Twins 1
Kole Calhoun homered and Cameron Maybin stole home on a delayed
steal in support of rookie starter Parker Bridwell's six scoreless
innings as Los Angeles avoided a sweep.
Calhoun had two hits and homered for the second straight day for the
Angels, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Bridwell (3-1)
cruised through his outing, surrendering four hits and three walks.
He struck out a career-high five batters.
Blue Jays 7, Yankees 6
Russell Martin drew a tiebreaking bases-loaded walk off Dellin
Betances with one out in the eighth inning to lift Toronto over New
York.
Betances (3-4) tied a career high by issuing four walks and did so
for the first time since becoming a late-inning reliever in 2014. At
one point, he threw nine consecutive pitches out of the strike zone,
and only nine of his 27 pitches were strikes.
Cubs 7, Rays 3
Ian Happ went 2-for-4, including a two-run go-ahead single in the
seventh inning, to lift Chicago past Tampa Bay.
The Cubs scored seven runs between the sixth and eighth innings to
overtake the Rays and earn a split in the two-game series.
Pedro Strop (3-2) worked a perfect seventh inning to earn the
victory. Tampa Bay's Erasmo Ramirez (4-3) gave up four runs through
the decisive sixth and seventh innings and took the loss.
Pirates 5, Phillies 2
Gerrit Cole gave up two runs in the first inning before settling in,
going six strong innings while also providing the eventual
game-winning hit in Pittsburgh's victory over Philadelphia.
The Pirates hit Phillies starter Ben Lively hard in the first three
innings, but several long fly balls fell just short of the wall.
They finally got to him in the fourth, when a John Jaso single, Josh
Bell triple and David Freese sacrifice fly tied the score at 2.
Giants 5, Tigers 4
Hunter Pence drove in three runs with a groundout and a triple to
lead San Francisco past Detroit.
The Tigers rallied for four runs in the seventh, but Cory Gearrin,
the last of four pitchers used by the Giants in the inning, struck
out Justin Upton with two on to end the burst.
Hunter Strickland pitched the eighth and Sam Dyson got his third
save with San Francisco after working the ninth. Gorkys Hernandez
had three hits for the Giants.
Athletics 7, White Sox 4
Sonny Gray threw six strong innings, and rookie Jaycob Brugman hit
his second career home run to lift Oakland past Chicago.
Gray (4-4) allowed two runs on three hits, struck out five and
walked two in his third straight quality start. Brugman went 2-for-3
with a solo home run. Jed Lowrie had three hits and drove in two
runs for the Athletics, and Rajai Davis stole four bases, matching
his career high, and had two hits.
Matt Davidson and Todd Frazier hit two-run homers for the White Sox.
