Newly elected Aldermen ready to learn in Aldermen Orientation Session

[July 06, 2017]  LINCOLN - Campaigning and being elected to represent your constituents is only the beginning of the work of being a locally elected official.

Next comes the difficult task of governing. An important component of governing is having a true understanding of the inner workings of your organization and having a clear picture of how the organization is progressing. In an effort to continue the work of the city and to diminish the steep learning curve facing newly elected officials, the City of Lincoln is conducting its first newly elected officials’ orientation session.

On Friday, July 7, from 1-5PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall the City of Lincoln Department Heads will conduct a primer into how their department works and how their work fits into the overall mission of the city. Each Department Head will utilize about 30 minutes - each discussing the work they do day-in and day-out and also discussing major projects that they may be undertaking currently or will be in the near future.

The idea of the meeting is not only to help provide a history of the efforts of the organization, but also to empower the aldermen to know how to best respond in the instance of a citizen inquiry.

While this session is intended for newly elected aldermen, all aldermen who wish to attend are welcome to take part in the discussion.
