LINCOLN
During public participation portion of the Lincoln City Council
meeting on Tuesday evening, Mitzi Rohlfs of the Logan County Joint
Solid Waste Agency (LCJSWA) offered statistical information about
the television and monitor recycling event that had been held on
Saturday.
The event was a partnership between the city of Lincoln and the
LCJSWA, with the city voting last Monday evening to pay for two semi
trailers. City employees and end loaders were utilized during the
collection and Goodman along with city aldermen and department heads
volunteered to assist in the unloading and loading of recyclable
products.
Rohlfs opened by thanking the city for its partnership with the
LCJSWA. She thanked Walter Landers and the street department crew,
Mayor Goodman, city aldermen, Habitat for Humanity volunteers,
LCJSWA board members who volunteered, and all the others who
volunteered.
Rohlfs said the event was a huge success.
She reported and thanked Illinois American Water for donating the
cost of one of the semi trailers. Rohlfs also acknowledged the Logan
County Fair Board for the use of the fairgrounds, the Lincoln
Wal-Mart, Lincoln IGA, and Walgreens provided refreshments for all
the volunteers.
Approximately 900 items, mostly televisions were delivered by 323
Logan County households, with 250 of those households being Lincoln
residents.

Rohlfs said that vehicles had begun gathering early on Saturday
morning, so the decision was made to go ahead and begin collections one-hour
earlier than planned.
She finished saying that she felt this event was a really good collaborative
effort.
Rick Hoefle mentioned that Building Safety Officer Wes Woodhall was also present
for the recycling and did a lot of heavy lifting as well.
Tracy Welch would later mention that he had seen footage filmed by drone of the
lines of vehicles snaking through the fairgrounds, and it was amazing.
Welch said his only apology for the day would be addressed to the shoppers of
the ALMH Farmers Market. He said he knew that some had become frustrated with
the traffic and had a difficult time getting onto the fairground property to do
their Saturday marketing. He said if we have another event, perhaps organizers
should take the market into consideration and re-define the route to the
collection point.
