Pineda had the UCL injury in his right elbow
examined by the Cincinnati Reds medical director, Dr. Timothy
Kremchek, who agreed with the original recommendation of Tommy
John surgery from the Yankees head team physician, Dr.
Christopher Ahmad.
The 28-year-old Pineda is scheduled to undergo the surgery on
Tuesday in Cincinnati, to be performed by Dr. Kremchek.
Pineda's last start was July 5 when he gave up nine hits,
including three homers, and five runs in three innings against
the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Washington Nationals called up right-hander Jacob Turner
from Triple-A Syracuse.
Turner, 26, returns to the Nationals for his second major league
assignment of the season. He went 2-3 with a 5.08 ERA in 39
innings in 18 games (two starts) during his first stint with
Washington.
Turner reported to Triple-A after being outrighted on July 3 and
went 0-1 with an 11.74 ERA in two starts.
The Nationals also transferred right-hander Koda Glover to the
60-day disabled list.

The Boston Red Sox activated left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez from
the 10-day disabled list ahead of his start against the Toronto
Blue Jays at Fenway Park.
Rodriguez, 24, returned from his injury rehab assignment with
Triple-A Pawtucket.
Rodriguez was placed on the 10-day disabled list on June 2 with
a right knee subluxation. He made one rehab start with Double-A
Portland and two with Pawtucket, most recently allowing only one
run with seven strikeouts and no walks in 6 1/3 innings on July
9 against Buffalo.
Rodriguez has made 10 starts for Boston this season, going 4-2
with a 3.54 ERA in 61 innings while striking out 65 and limiting
opposing hitters to a .222 batting average.
He compiled a career-long four-game winning streak in seven
starts from April 23 to May 26, compiling a 2.25 ERA. ))
