SPRINGFIELD
– Everyone knows Abraham Lincoln as the great emancipator, self-made
man or even country lawyer. But what about Lincoln as political
boss?
Historian Matthew Pinsker will discuss Lincoln’s partisan skills and
accomplishments when he visits the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Library and Museum on Tuesday, July 25.
His presentation, “Boss Lincoln: Understanding Lincoln’s Partisan
Leadership,” is free and begins at 5:30 p.m. It takes place in the
multi-purpose room of the ALPLM’s library building (112 N. Sixth
St., Springfield).

Pinsker teaches history at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and
is the author of “Lincoln's Sanctuary: Abraham Lincoln and The
Soldiers’ Home.” He is working on a new study of Lincoln’s
organizational skills and the style of partisan command that he
developed in Illinois politics.
