July 20 (Reuters) - Highlights
from Major League Baseball games on Wednesday:
Rockies 18, Padres 4
Nolan Arenado hit three home runs in a game for the first time in
his career Wednesday as the Colorado Rockies walloped the San Diego
Padres 18-4 to sweep a three-game series and win their fourth in a
row overall.
Arenado had a career-high five hits and tied a personal best with
seven RBIs. He also scored four runs.
Arenado's memorable game gave him 21 homers and a
major-league-leading 80 RBIs this season. With a shot at a
record-tying four homers when he came to bat in the eighth, Arenado
ran the count to 3-2 and lined out to left.
Dodgers 9, White Sox 1 (8 innings)
Enrique Hernandez slammed two home runs, and Chris Taylor finished a
triple shy of the cycle to help Los Angeles win its 11th straight in
a game called early because of rain.
Corey Seager added a home run, two singles and three RBIs for the
Dodgers, who have won 31 of their last 35 games. Kenta Maeda (8-4)
held the White Sox to one run on five hits in five innings.
Top prospect Yoan Moncada finished 0-for-2 with a walk in his White
Sox debut. Carlos Rodon (1-3) was pounded for five runs on seven
hits in 3 2/3 innings. He allowed a career-high four home runs.
Angels 7, Nationals 0
Alex Meyer allowed one hit in a career-high seven innings, and Mike
Trout belted a two-run homer as Los Angeles halted Washington's
six-game winning streak.
Meyer (4-5) struck out seven and walked only one. C.J. Cron also hit
a two-run homer while Yunel Escobar and Cliff Pennington each had
two hits for the Angels. David Hernandez (eighth inning) and Jose
Alvarez (ninth) each threw a hitless inning of relief.
Gio Gonzalez (8-5) gave up four runs, five hits and three walks in 5
2/3 innings. The Nationals' Bryce Harper did not play, getting a
rest.

Cubs 8, Braves 2
Chicago, which went into the All-Star break two games under .500,
has won six straight since and is starting to look a little more
like the team that won the World Series a year ago.
Left-hander Mike Montgomery allowed two hits over six innings and
hit his first career homer as the Cubs completed a second straight
series sweep with a victory over Atlanta.
Addison Russell was 4-for-4 with two doubles, and the Cubs got
homers from Javier Baez and Tommy La Stella, who entered when Kris
Bryant sprained a finger in the first inning.
Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 1
Drew Pomeranz earned his 10th win, and Dustin Pedroia drove in three
runs to power Boston past Toronto.
Pomeranz (10-4) allowed only an unearned run -- keyed by Pedroia's
first error in 115 games -- and three hits in 6 2/3 innings en route
to his fourth consecutive victory. He is 7-1 in his past eight
decisions since a dugout confrontation with manager John Farrell.
Pedroia finished 2-for-3, and Mookie Betts scored two runs for the
Red Sox.
Mets 7, Cardinals 3
Jacob deGrom won his seventh consecutive start, tossing 6 2/3 strong
innings in New York's victory over St. Louis.
DeGrom (11-3) threw 25 pitches in the first inning but settled down
to allow one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out
three. He has a 1.51 ERA in his past seven starts, a stretch in
which he has struck out 50 and walked 10.
The Mets scored all their runs in the first two innings against Mike
Leake (6-8). Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI single in the first and an
RBI double in the second, while Lucas Duda (double), Wilmer Flores
(single), Jay Bruce (single) and Jose Reyes (two-run single) also
had run-scoring hits.

Pirates 3, Brewers 2 (10 innings)
Max Moroff hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning to give
Pittsburgh a victory over Milwaukee.
Josh Harrison hit a ground-rule double to center before the Brewers
intentionally walked Andrew McCutchen. Harrison advanced to third on
a fly out by John Jaso. Moroff then dropped in a single for his
first career walk-off hit.
The Pirates scored the tying run in the ninth as David Freese walked
with one out and Gregory Polanco singled to right to move Moroff,
who pinch-ran for Freese, to third. Francisco Cervelli followed with
another single to right, scoring Moroff and tying it 2-2.
Royals 4, Tigers 3
Brandon Moss, who earlier homered, doubled home the tying run in the
ninth inning and scored the winning run as Kansas City rallied past
Detroit.
Moss doubled off Justin Wilson (3-4) to score Alcides Escobar, who
had walked. Moss went to third on the throw home and scored on Alex
Gordon's sacrifice fly. It was Gordon's sixth career walk-off RBI.

Mikie Mahtook hit a two-run homer in the top of the
ninth to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Mahtook went deep to center on
a 1-2 Kelvin Herrera pitch with pinch runner Andrew Romine aboard.
Herrera blew a save for the third time in 22 opportunities.
Twins 6, Yankees 1
Miguel Sano homered as part of a six-run second inning, Jose Berrios
pitched into the seventh, and Minnesota sent New York to another
series loss.
Sano's three-run homer capped the big inning against Yankees starter
Jordan Montgomery (6-5) and allowed the Twins to overshadow the
arrival of Todd Frazier, David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle to the
Yankees. The three were acquired from the Chicago White Sox on
Tuesday night and arrived at Target Field in the early innings.
Frazier was 0-for-1 and was hit by a pitch after
entering as a pinch hitter, and Kahnle worked a scoreless inning in
his debut for New York, which hasn't won a series since sweeping
Baltimore, June 9-11.

Reds 4, Diamondbacks 3 (11 innings)
Adam Duvall's single with the bases loaded in the 11th inning drove
home Billy Hamilton with the winning run to lift Cincinnati over
Arizona.
Zack Cozart homered for the Reds, who had lost five straight games
since the All-Star break by a combined 46-14. Michael Lorenzen (5-2)
allowed a walk and struck out two over two innings to earn the
victory.
The Diamondbacks got a scare in the fourth inning when newly
acquired right fielder J.D. Martinez left the game after being hit
on the left hand while swinging for Strike 3. X-rays were negative,
and he is listed as day-to-day.
Mariners 4, Astros 1
James Paxton continued his exceptional pitching this month, and Ben
Gamel hit a two-run homer as Seattle won the rubber match of the
three-game series with Houston.
Paxton (9-3) extended his winning streak to four consecutive starts
with another dominating performance against the Astros. He allowed
one run on six hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over seven
innings, improving to 2-0 with an 0.45 ERA and 20 strikeouts against
four walks in three starts against Houston this season.
The Mariners didn't muster much of an attack against Astros
right-hander Charlie Morton (7-4) but capitalized on opportunities.
Athletics 7, Rays 2
Sonny Gray allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings and won his third
straight game as Oakland defeated Tampa Bay in the finale of a
three-game series.
Gray (6-4), who has been the subject of trade rumors for weeks,
allowed seven hits, struck out six and walked two. He left the game
to a standing ovation in what might have been his final career start
at home for the A's.
Matt Joyce homered for Oakland, which got two hits apiece from
Yonder Alonso, Jed Lowrie and Rajai Davis.

Giants 5, Indians 4
Pinch hitter Buster Posey laced a two-strike, two-run double with
two outs in the eighth inning, capping a three-run uprising that
delivered San Francisco a victory over Cleveland.
A second straight win over the American League Central leaders gave
the Giants their first interleague series win of the season.
The Indians, meanwhile, dropped their sixth straight interleague
series and fell to 4-13 against National League competition this
season.
Orioles 10, Rangers 2
Kevin Gausman allowed four hits in six innings, and Adam Jones
homered to lead Baltimore past Texas.
Gausman (6-7) allowed one run while striking out eight and walking
two. He bounced back from his last start against the Chicago Cubs
when he was charged with eight runs and seven hits in three innings.
Jonathan Schoop and Jones had three hits apiece for Baltimore.
Texas' Martin Perez (5-7), who had won three of his last four
starts, allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits, with three
strikeouts and one walk, in six-plus innings.
Phillies 10, Marlins 3
Rookie Nick Williams hit two triples to overshadow another Giancarlo
Stanton home run, leading Philadelphia to a win over Miami.

Stanton homered four times in the three-game series. Wednesday's
homer tied him with Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees for the
major league home run lead, with 30.
Christian Yelich also hit a solo homer for the Marlins. [© 2017 Thomson Reuters. All
