Hayes, a 6-foot-6 forward who
was a 1,000-point scorer for the Stags, will play for Todd
Skrivseth at Monmouth. Skrivseth enters his seventh season
guiding the Fighting Scot’s men’s basketball program.
“Alec is a versatile interior player who can stretch his scoring
to the three-point line,” said Skrivseth. “We’re excited he is
joining our program and will compete for an opportunity as a
much needed interior player.”
The four-year letter winner also turned in an MVP year for the
Stags and earned first team all-Tomahawk Conference honors.
Academically, Hayes graduated as the class valedictorian.
“Alec defines the term ‘student-athlete,’ excelling on and off
the court,” said his high school coach Jason Garber. “He has
been an exceptional role model in all aspects. Athletically, he
has the skill set to go inside or outside. Monmouth has found
themselves one heck of a basketball player.”
In the last three years Monmouth has produced five all-conference
selections and one all-region honoree. The Scots return two all-conference
selections for the 2017-18 campaign.
