Highlights of Thursday's Major League Baseball games:
Diamondbacks 15, Padres 3
Chris Iannetta homered, doubled twice and drove in a career-high
seven runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks completed a three-game sweep
with a 15-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday at Chase
Field.
Daniel Descalso had two hits, including a homer, and drove in two
runs as Arizona improved to a major league-best 24-8 at Chase Field,
the best home start in franchise history.
Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed had two hits apiece
for the D-backs, who outscored the Padres 32-9 in the series.
Wil Myers, Hunter Renfroe and Jose Pirela had two hits apiece for
San Diego, which has lost five in a row after a five-game winning
streak.
Astros 6, Royals 1
Jose Altuve hit a two-run homer as Houston sent 10 men to the plate
in a five-run ninth inning to beat Kansas City.
Lance McCullers' no-hit bid ended with one out in the seventh when
he gave up a triple to Kansas City's Lorenzo Cain. After McCullers
struck out Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas' single to right drove in
Cain to make it 1-1.
In the ninth, after Kelvin Herrera (1-2) walked Josh Reddick on four
pitches, Altuve hit a 1-0 offering out to left-center to break a 1-1
tie. The inning also included a triple from Carlos Correa, who
scored on a Brian McCann sacrifice fly. Jake Marisnick drove in the
other two runs with a single.
Yankees 9, Red Sox 1
Gary Sanchez continued his personal success against David Price,
homering in consecutive at-bats as New York defeated Boston.
Sanchez, moved down to sixth in the batting order Wednesday,
recorded his second multi-homer game in the last week the following
day when he hit a three-run homer in the third and a two-run shot in
the fifth. It made the catcher 4-for-7 against Price (1-3) -- all
home runs.
Sanchez also tied a career high with his second career game with
five RBIs. Michael Pineda (7-3) rebounded from a shaky start in
Toronto on Friday by allowing an unearned run and four singles while
striking out eight in seven innings.
Rockies 4, Cubs 1
Tyler Chatwood gave up a first-inning home run and little else to
help lead Colorado to victory over Chicago.
Charlie Blackmon went 2-for-3 with an RBI while DJ LeMahieu added a
three-run homer as the Rockies won their fifth straight and sixth in
seven games. Chatwood (6-7) pitched through the sixth inning,
allowing four hits. He's 3-0 all-time against the Cubs.
Jon Lester (3-4) worked five innings and took the loss for Chicago,
losers of two straight. Lester missed out on claiming his 150th
career victory and has two losses and a no-decision in his last
three games. He's 1-3 all-time against Colorado.
Nationals 6, Orioles 1
Joe Ross struck out a career-high 12 batters, and Trea Turner stole
a career-high three bases and had three hits as Washington defeated
Baltimore.
Stephen Drew added two hits and drove in two while Bryce Harper
added three hits, an RBI, a run and a stolen base for the Nationals.
Ross (3-2), who entered the game with a 7.34 ERA, allowed four hits
and one run in 7 1/3 innings.
Ross' bid for a shutout was spoiled with an RBI single by Joey
Rickard in the seventh innng. The Orioles' Alec Asher (2-4) gave up
five runs, seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts in four
innings. He threw a whopping 100 pitches -- only 59 for strikes.
Twins 2, Mariners 1
Kyle Gibson won his third consecutive decision, and Jason Castro hit
a home run, leading Minnesota past Seattle.
The Twins snapped a two-game losing streak and moved 1 1/2 games
ahead of the idle Cleveland Indians atop the American League
Central. Gibson (3-4) allowed one run on five hits in a season-high
six-plus innings, walking three and striking out four.
Castro snapped a scoreless tie with two outs in the fourth inning,
hitting a solo homer to right field off Mariners starter Christian
Bergman (3-3). Seattle had its season-high five-game winning streak
snapped.

Giants 9, Brewers 5 (10 innings)
Hunter Pence's pinch-hit RBI single was the key hit in a four-run
10th inning as San Francisco clinched a split of its four-game
series against Milwaukee.
Gorkys Hernandez and Kelby Tomlinson opened the 10th with singles
against Jacob Barnes (1-1). Hernandez scored on the base hit from
Pence and Tomlinson followed on a double from Denard Span. Eduardo
Nunez knocked in Span, and Eric Thames lost Joe Panik's fly ball in
the late-evening sun, allowing another run to score.
The Giants still led 5-3 heading into the ninth but
Mark Melancon (1-1) gave up a leadoff home run to Eric Sogard and an
RBI single to Travis Shaw to force extra innings.
Reds 5, Cardinals 2
Joey Votto belted a two-run homer to highlight a 4-for-4 performance
as Cincinnati completed its first four-game sweep of St. Louis since
May 5-8, 2003.
Adam Duvall went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Reds.
Scott Feldman (5-4) allowed only four hits with no walks and four
strikeouts through seven innings.
Matt Carpenter hit a two-run home run for St. Louis, which has lost
a season-high seven straight games for the first time since 2013.
Rays 7, White Sox 5
A day after controversy erupted regarding Derek Norris, his bat
erupted for two home runs to lift Tampa Bay over Chicago.
Major League Baseball is investigating allegations from Norris'
former fiancee that the catcher "physically and mentally abused''
her. Jake Odorizzi (4-3) went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on
eight hits while Alex Colome recorded four outs for his 17th save.
The White Sox finally got to Odorizzi in the top of the sixth when
Avasail Garcia belted a three-run homer to make it 6-3. Todd Frazier
added a two-run homer off reliever Ryne Stanek in the eighth inning
to trim the deficit to 6-5.
Angels 11, Tigers 4
Danny Espinosa smacked three hits and drove in three runs and
Andrelton Simmons had two hits during a six-run seventh inning as
Los Angeles thumped Detroit.
Simmons wound up with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs,
while Eric Young Jr. supplied three hits, three runs scored and an
RBI for the Angels. Winning pitcher JC Ramirez (6-4) lasted five
innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits.
Nicholas Castellanos had three hits, including a double and homer,
for the Tigers. Ian Kinsler also contributed three hits and scored
twice.
Marlins 7, Pirates 1
Edinson Volquez shut down his former team as he combined with
Miami's bullpen to four-hit Pittsburgh.
Pitching only five days after his first career no-hitter, Volquez
(3-7) allowed the second batter to reach on a single but quickly
settled in and struck out eight Pirates while cruising through seven
scoreless innings to earn his third win of the season.
Pittsburgh's Gerrit Cole (3-6) gave up seven runs on 11 hits in 4
2/3 innings. He failed to pitch beyond the fifth inning for his
fourth consecutive start.
Braves 3, Phillies 1
R.A. Dickey baffled Philadelphia hitters for seven innings and broke
a six-game winless streak as Atlanta prevailed.
The knuckleball specialist allowed one run and three hits, and
retired 15 consecutive batters from the second through sixth
innings. Dickey (4-4) struck out a season-high eight batters and did
not walk a batter for the first time in 12 starts this season.
The Braves' 11-hit attack was led by Brandon Phillips, Matt Kemp,
Matt Adams and Flowers with two hits apiece. The Phillies'
Ben Lively (1-1), making his second major league start, allowed
