[June 13, 2017]    June 12 (The Sports Xchange) - Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart is enjoying the best season of his career and he now sits atop the balloting to start in the All-Star Game after Major League Baseball announced its latest National League tabulations on Monday.

 

Cozart moved ahead of Los Angeles' Corey Seager in the battle for the starting shortstop gig. Cozart sits at 997,966 votes and Seager has received 804,788.

Houston Astros rising star Lance McCullers Jr. was placed on the 10-day disabled list with lower back discomfort, the team announced.

McCullers joins staff ace Dallas Keuchel (9-0, 1.67 ERA) on the disabled list. The right-hander is 6-1 with a 2.58 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 76 2/3 innings.

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Matt Andriese will likely be sidelined into August because of the hip injury he suffered Saturday.

The Rays placed Andriese on the 10-day disabled list with a stress reaction in his right hip. He underwent an MRI on Sunday that pinpointed the damage.

Jerry Remy will be treated for a relapse of lung cancer, the former Boston Red Sox player and current NESN color commentator posted on his personal Twitter account.

"I have been diagnosed with cancer again," the 64-year-old Remy wrote. "Treatment starts in 2 weeks. Still strong. Please see your doctor."

The Minnesota Twins activated shortstop Jorge Polanco off the bereavement list, the team announced.

Polanco missed the past seven games after traveling to the Dominican Republic following the death of his grandfather.

The Seattle Mariners recalled right-hander Casey Lawrence from Triple-A Tacoma, the team announced.

Lawrence has made five appearances this season for the Mariners, all in relief, and posted a 0-0 record with a 3.29 ERA. He has 16 strikeouts and three walks in 13 2/3 innings.
