The Montreal Canadiens added a jolt to their offense by acquiring restricted free-agent forward Jonathan Drouin from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

Immediately after acquiring him, the Canadiens signed him to a six-year, $33 million contract, according to multiple outlets.

Montreal also received a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2018 draft from Tampa Bay in exchange for blue-chip defense prospect Mikhail Sergachev and a conditional second-round pick in next year's draft.

Drouin enjoyed his best season of his young career in 2016-17, collecting 21 goals and 32 assists in 73 games with the Lightning.

Drouin has 29 goals and 66 assists in 164 career games since being selected by the Lightning with the third overall pick of the 2013 draft.

All was not rosy in Tampa Bay for Drouin, who refused an assignment to Syracuse of the American Hockey League in 2016. He was suspended without pay for nearly two months before eventually accepting the demotion to the AHL.

Sergachev, who was the ninth overall pick of the 2016 draft, recorded a plus-1 rating while playing in four games for the Canadiens this past season. The 18-year-old Russian also played in 50 games with Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League, scoring 10 goals and setting up 33 others.
