[June 21, 2017]  June 20 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Major League Baseball games on Tuesday:

Dodgers 12, Mets 0

Corey Seager homered three times and drove in six runs, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 12-0 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday night.

Seager went 4-for-5 and recorded the second three-homer game of his career. Seager hit three home runs against the Atlanta Braves on June 3, 2006.

Cody Bellinger, who hit two home runs in Monday's victory over New York, and Yasmani Grandal also went deep for Los Angeles, which has won five in a row and 11 of its past 12 games. The five homers tied a season high for the Dodgers.

Los Angeles' Brandon McCarthy threw six scoreless innings and limited the Mets to four hits. McCarthy (6-3) struck out four, walked one and hit a batter.

Mariners 5, Tigers 4 (10 innings)

Kyle Seager drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Seattle a victory over Detroit.

Nelson Cruz walked against Justin Wilson (3-3) to open the inning. Pinch-runner Tyler Smith stole second base before Seager lined a double down the right-field line to score Smith and give the Mariners their third consecutive victory.

Steve Cishek (1-1) pitched one scoreless inning of relief. The Tigers suffered their fourth straight loss.

Red Sox 8, Royals 3

Chris Sale gave up four hits and struck out 10 in 8 1/3 innings as Boston breezed past Kansas City and into first place in the American League East.

Sale (9-3) increased his major league-leading strikeout total to 146, striking out 10 or more in 10 starts. The last Red Sox player with 10 or more such starts prior to the All-Star break was Pedro Martinez with 11 in 1999.

Boston banged out a dozen hits, led by Chris Young going 3-for-4 with a run-producing double and scoring a run. Xander Bogaerts and Sandy Leon each collected two hits and two RBIs.

Rockies 4, Diamondbacks 3

Nolan Arenado, who hit a three-run, walk-off homer Sunday to complete a cycle and give Colorado a 7-5 victory, tripled home two runs in the eighth inning to give the Rockies a victory over Arizona.

The Diamondbacks tied the game 2-2 when David Peralta hit a leadoff home run in the top of the eighth inning and Paul Goldschmidt followed with a shot into the right field stands. The homers gave Zack Greinke (8-4) his first lead, but he couldn't hold it.

Greinke gave up consecutive one-out singles in the eighth to Charlie Blackmon and DJ LeMahieu, and Arenado followed with a triple off the wall in right on Greinke's 1-0 slider to give first-place Colorado its sixth straight victory.

Astros 8, Athletics 4

George Springer sparked a five-run first inning with a leadoff home run, and rookie Francis Martes allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings to lift Houston over Oakland.

The Astros won for the eighth straight time at the Oakland Coliseum and beat the Athletics for the 13th time in the past 14 games. They've won the first two contests of the four-game series and own the best record in the major leagues at 48-24.

Martes (2-0) allowed six hits, struck out four and walked three in his second career major league start and third appearance. Carlos Beltran went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, his 10th blast of the season, for Houston.

Nationals 12, Marlins 3

Ryan Zimmerman and Stephen Drew had three RBIs apiece to lead Washington over Miami.

Bryce Harper, who had a two-run single, extended his hitting streak to a career-high 13 games for the Nationals. Washington's 3-4-5-6 batters combined for 10 RBIs. In order, those batters were Harper, Zimmerman, Daniel Murphy and Drew.

Gio Gonzalez, a native of Miami Dade County, improved his record to 7-1, allowing six hits, two walks and three runs in seven innings. He struck out eight. Miami's Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run homer and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Orioles 6, Indians 5

Manny Machado had four hits, including a pair of home runs, and Baltimore beat first-place Cleveland.

The Indians ended their longest winning streak of the season at six games. The Orioles extended their American League record in allowing five or more runs in 17 consecutive games. It's also the second-longest streak in the majors over the past 100 years.

Edwin Encarnacion got his 17th home run for Cleveland. Jonathan Schoop added a solo homer for Baltimore.

Pirates 7, Brewers 3

Chad Kuhl struck out six batters and Pittsburgh erupted for six runs in the first inning before cruising past Milwaukee.

Kuhl (2-6) held the Brewers to two runs, seven hits and two walks over five innings and earned his first victory since April 8. Jose Osuna hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Andrew McCutchen, who enjoyed a three-hit day, added a solo shot in the third.

Both blasts came at the expense of Brewers right-hander Zach Davies (7-4), who gave up seven runs, 10 hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings. Davies retired his first batter, Adam Frazier, but didn't record another out he struck out Kuhl.

Cubs 4, Padres 0

Anthony Rizzo's leadoff homer provided the only run needed while four Chicago pitchers shut out San Diego.

The Cubs' Mike Montgomery (1-3) allowed three hits and struck out four over six innings as Chicago won its third straight. Ian Happ hit a solo home run in the eighth inning and pinch-hitter Albert Almora later provided a run-scoring double.

Jhoulys Chacin also worked six innings and saw a personal two-game winning streak snapped as the Padres dropped their third in a row.

Angels 8, Yankees 3

Cameron Maybin started a three-run seventh inning with a tiebreaking homer and had three hits as Los Angeles defeated New York.

Maybin began the decisive inning when he lined a 1-0 changeup from Tyler Clippard (1-4) into the left-field seats. It was his fifth homer, surpassing his total in 94 games for the Detroit Tigers last season.

Yunel Escobar hit an RBI triple off the left-field wall off Clippard and Luis Valbuena added an RBI single through a drawn-in infield during the inning off Jonathan Holder. Valbuena added a solo homer in the ninth for the Angels' final run.

Twins 9, White Sox 7

Kennys Vargas hit a three-run homer to pick up a struggling Ervin Santana as Minnesota outlasted Chicago.

Vargas' blast was part of a five-run third inning for the Twins, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Miguel Sano added a two-run homer for Minnesota which was outhit 16-12.

The Twins didn't get a clean outing from Santana (9-4), who has struggled in his last several outings. The veteran right-hander lasted five innings and allowed six runs on a season-high 10 hits.

Cardinals 8, Phillies 1 (11 innings)

Stephen Piscotty recorded a tiebreaking two-run double in the 11th inning and Yadier Molina and Tommy Pham added two-run homers as St. Louis beat Philadelphia.

Neither team had scored since the fourth inning until Phillies reliever Edubray Ramos (0-5) walked Matt Carpenter and Dexter Fowler to begin the 11th. Piscotty followed with his hit off Casey Fien. Kevin Siegrist (1-1) pitched a perfect 10th inning.

Philadelphia lost its fourth straight and 12th in the last 13 games. It was Ramos' second straight appearance giving up multiple runs without recording an out.

Rangers 6, Blue Jays 1

Spot starter Nick Martinez threw 6 1/3 strong innings and made Texas' four runs in the first inning stand up in its victory over Toronto.

Martinez (2-3), working on six days' rest, yielded one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three for the Rangers, who snapped a two-game losing skid. The right-hander worked around base runners in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

Adrian Beltre had an RBI in the Rangers' four-run first and a solo home run in the eighth. Carlos Gomez and Nomar Mazara also homered, while Jonathan Lucroy and Mike Napoli each had an RBI.

Rays 6, Reds 5

Jesus Sucre belted a two-run homer and Logan Morrison provided a two-out, two-run single as Tampa Bay upended Cincinnati.

The Rays improved to 9-16 versus left-handers this season after defeating rookie Amir Garrett (3-6), who didn't survive the fourth and raised his season ERA to 7.41. Alex Cobb (6-5) allowed two runs in seven innings for his third straight quality start.

Garrett (3-6) didn't survive the fourth and raised his season ERA to 7.41, among the highest in the National League. The Reds scored three runs in the ninth off closer Alex Colome, who allowed Joey Votto's 20th home run of the season before recording his 20th save.

Giants 6, Braves 3

Rookie Austin Slater hit a three-run homer in a five-run eighth inning and Matt Moore picked up his first road victory of the season as San Francisco snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Braves starter Julio Teheran (6-5) came into the eighth inning pitching a three-hit shutout, but Slater's homer put the Giants ahead and the Braves finished with three errors in the inning. The Giants had five hits, including a RBI single by Denard Span, in the frame.

Moore (3-7) left after allowing a leadoff hit in the eighth. Brandon Belt gave San Francisco a cushion with his 12th homer of the season in the ninth, and Mark Melancon retired the Braves in order in the bottom of the inning for his 11th save.
