[March 04, 2017]    March 3 (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Jets officially released wide receiver Brandon Marshall on Friday, saving $7.5 million against the salary cap.

The production of the six-time Pro Bowler dropped sharply last season when he had just 59 receptions for 788 yards and three touchdowns. One year earlier, Marshall set Jets single-season marks of 109 receptions and 1,434 yards and matched the club record of 14 touchdown receptions.

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews will not need surgery on his injured shoulder this offseason, according to coach Mike McCarthy.

The six-time Pro Bowler suffered a separated AC joint in his left shoulder after taking what he called a cheap shot from Philadelphia Eagles guard Allen Barbre in Week 12 on Nov. 28.

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to place the second-round tender on restricted free agent wide receiver Taylor Gabriel.

According to a Friday report by ESPN.com, the tender on Gabriel is worth $2.81 million. Gabriel is guaranteed to make at least that much in 2017 and if he plays under the tender, he will be eligible for unrestricted free agency in 2018.

Gabriel caught 35 passes for 579 yards in 13 games and led the Falcons with six touchdown catches last season.

The Philadelphia Eagles will get the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft after winning a coin toss with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Eagles hold the Vikings' first-round selection after the trade last season that sent quarterback Sam Bradford to Minnesota.

The Vikings finished the season tied with the Colts for the No. 14 position in the draft order as both teams were 8-8 with identical strength-of-schedule ratings (.492), thus forcing the coin flip.

--

The Indianapolis Colts will no longer go off site for training camp and instead plan to conduct their 2017 summer camp at the team's training facility.

The Colts announced the training camp will be held at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center in Indianapolis, headquarters of the team. )
