[March 11, 2017]  March 10 (The Sports Xchange) - The Cleveland Browns released quarterback Robert Griffin III on Friday, a day after acquiring Brock Osweiler from the Houston Texans.

Griffin was released on the eve of the Browns having to pay the six-year veteran a $750,000 roster bonus on Saturday, a league source told Cleveland.com.

Griffin was due to make more than $6 million in the 2017 season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Browns are trying to shop Osweiler, giving Cody Kessler a chance to be the starting quarterback.

The New York Jets have shown interest in Griffin.

The Washington Redskins signed four unrestricted free agents, including wide receiver Terrelle Pryor Sr. and defensive lineman Terrell McClain.

The team also announced the signings of defensive lineman Stacy McGee and safety D.J. Swearinger.

Pryor, who had 77 receptions for Cleveland last season, signed a reported one-year deal worth $8 million. McClain's deal is for a reported four years and worth $21 million with $11 million guaranteed.

McGee agreed to terms on a five-year contract worth $25 million with $9 million guaranteed and Swearinger to a three-year, $13.5 million deal with $9 million guaranteed.

Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins officially signed his one-year franchise tender for the guaranteed salary of almost $24 million.

The Redskins can negotiate with Cousins on a long-term deal until July 15.

Outside linebacker Julius Peppers agreed to a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers.

Peppers played his first eight seasons for Carolina. He was NFC Rookie of the Year in 2002, NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 and recorded 81 of his 143.5 career sacks with the Panthers.

He played the past three seasons for Green Bay.

The Panthers traded defensive end Kony Ealy along with a third-round draft pick to the New England Patriots for a second-round draft choice, ESPN reported.

Ealy's best game came in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos following the 2015 season. He posted three sacks and a forced fumble in that game.

Jimmy Garoppolo's early morning farewell to Boston was a hoax pulled off by someone other than the Patriots' backup quarterback.

A post a 4:26 a.m. from "jimmypolo10," the registered Instagram account of Garoppolo, read "So grateful for my time in New England. Peace out Boston."

Multiple outlets reported before sunrise on the East Coast that Garoppolo was not aware of the post, meaning his account had been hacked or someone in his inner circle accessed Instagram using Garoppolo's information.

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock is a candidate for the Washington Redskins' general manager position, ESPN reported.

The Redskins' job opened when the club fired Scot McCloughan on Thursday night.

Chandler Jones signed a five-year contract worth $83 million with the Arizona Cardinals that removes the franchise tag assigned Jones on Feb. 27. The deal guarantees Jones $53 million.

The Cardinals also agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent linebacker Karlos Dansby and a two-year deal with 42-year-old kicker Phil Dawson, the team announced.

Dansby led the Bengals with 114 tackles last season after playing in all 16 games (seven starts).

Dawson made 18 of 21 field goals for the San Francisco 49ers last season.

The Detroit Lions signed defensive tackle Akeem Spence and offensive tackle Rick Wagner to free agent contracts.

Spence agreed to a reported three-year deal worth $10.5 million and Wagner to a five-year contract worth up to $9 million per season.

The Indianapolis Colts released cornerback Patrick Robinson after the 29-year-old suffered through a disappointing 2016 campaign.

Baltimore Ravens defensive back/linebacker Anthony Levine Sr. agreed to terms on a three-year contract.
