The Lincoln College Baseball team finished their spring trip
to Florida with a double-header split against #9 ranked Century CC
of Minnesota.
LC took the first game 3-2 on an unearned run in the bottom of the
seventh. In that inning, sophomore Jaime Valdez laid down a
sacrifice bunt in an attempt to move freshman Ryan Thomas of Lincoln
from second to third. The Century pitcher fielded the bunt and
attempted to get Thomas at third, but the throw sailed passed the
base allowing Thomas to score the winning run.
Starting pitcher Matt Winscher of O'Fallon, MO went the distance for
the Lynx to earn the win. Winscher (2-0) gave up just three hits
while striking out eight and walking four. Sophomore Casey Arnold
(Belleville) was locked in at the plate going two-for-two with a
RBI.
In the second game, LC starting pitcher Ben Steiner was roughed up
early by Century as they scored two runs in the first and three more
in the second to build a lead that they would hold the rest of the
game.
Lincoln made things interesting by scoring two runs in each of the
last three innings, but would eventually suffer their first loss of
the season by a final score of 10-7. Ryan Thomas went two-for-three
at the plate with two runs scored while four other Lynx hitters
recorded a RBI each. Steiner (1-1) took the loss for Lincoln.

LC Coach Tony Thomas: "Game one was an incredible,
come-from-behind win in the bottom of the seventh for us. Matt was
fantastic on the mound. In the bottom of seventh, we put pressure on
them, and they did not handle it. That one was a fun team win! In
game two we fell behind early, but I was impressed with how we
fought back. We actually out-scored them 7-5 from the fourth on.
Overall, we had a great week of baseball. I am very proud of how we
competed on this trip. We still have some work to do, but I am
confident they are ready for it." [Mark
