On Friday evening, the Lincoln College men's volleyball team
hosted the Ottawa University (KS) varsity squad. OU featured a
former Lynx, 2016 LC grad Alex Robles of Plainfield.
In set one, LC was able to keep up with the high-powered Ottawa
offense, and was competitive, but dropped the opening set 19-25.
Sets two and three saw OU tighten up their defense and take LC out
of system repeatedly with powerful jump serves. Lincoln trailed most
of the way in those sets to lose them both by scores of 14-25 and
14-25.
Sophomore Kyle Murphy (Itasca) led LC with six kills and Murphy also
tallied five digs. Sophomore Greg Scott (North Chicago) dished out
eight set assists, had three kills, and served two points.
LC Coach Mark Tippett: Ottawa was a very sharp team. They made few
errors and had some guys who could really hit the ball. We needed to
pass better in order to be competitive in this match, but when we
did get volleys going, we were able to win points against them. This
was another good test for our players and a chance for us to compete
against a high level team. It was also great to see one of our
former players doing so well. Alex Robles was a major contributor to
the early success of our program, so we wish him all the best for
sure.
Lincoln (17-12) will look to get back on track this Wednesday at St.
Ambrose University.
