Eighty-two fifth grade
students from Logan County have successfully graduated from the
Logan County D.A.R.E. program.
Logan County Sheriff Sergeant Mark Landers taught D.A.R.E. to
students from Olympia South Elementary, Emden Elementary, and New
Holland Middletown Elementary.
The D.A.R.E. program consisted of 10 weekly lessons. During the
course of the program, the students learned how to utilize the DARE
Decision Making Model to help them make safe and responsible
choices.
Topics which were covered included positive ways to deal with
stress, peer pressure, the health effects of drugs and tobacco,
bullying, good citizenship, and building a help network. The
students completed a D.A.R.E. essay at the end of the program. The
following students from each class received an award for the best
essay:
Emy White – Mrs. Thompson’s class - New Holland/Middletown
Elementary
Lorisa Riggs – Mr. McNeil’s class - Emden Elementary
Jace Whitted – Mrs. Averbeck’s class - Olympia South Elementary
Kyler Simpson – Mrs. Turner’s class - Olympia South Elementary
