Two Lincoln College Women’s Basketball players have been
selected for post-season recognition.
Freshman Erynn Young was named the Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC)
Freshman of the Year and was selected to the MWAC All-Conference
first team. She also made the highly selective National Junior
College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XXIV All-Region Team.
Fellow freshman Jantia Clark received All-Region Honorable mention
honors.
Young, a criminal justice major from Ben Davis High School in
Indianapolis, Indiana, was among the conference leaders in points
per game (23.7), assists per game (2.5) and rebounds per game (7.1).
Her total of 89 blocked shots for the season was enough to rank her
among the top ten players in the nation. Lincoln College Coach Matt
Vavro feels his talented freshman forward is deserving of the
recognition she is receiving.
Vavro said, “Erynn is a high energy player who is active on both
ends of the court. She works hard to get out in transition and is
excellent with the ball in the open court.”
Coach Vavro points to Young’s confidence in her abilities and
fearless nature as prime reasons for her success. “When the game is
on the line, Erynn wants the ball,” said Vavro. “The bigger the
moment, the more she wants to be involved in the action.”

Jantia Clark played her way to All-Region honorable mention status
by averaging 15.1 points and 2.6 steals per game. The freshman
business management major from Arsenal Tech High School in
Indianapolis, IN, hit 83 three-pointers on the season, which was the
eleventh highest total in the nation. Coach Vavro was particularly
impressed with Clark’s accomplishments due to the fact that she is
one of the shortest players on the team.
Coach Vavro said, “For a player who is just over five feet tall to
average 15 points in this league is impressive, especially since she
played out of position for most of the season.” Clark, who is also
from Indianapolis, moved from shooting guard to point guard early in
the year after an injury to teammate Emoni Smith.
Young and Clark were key contributors to the Lady Lynx 14 wins this
season. The fact that they are both freshman bodes well for the
future of the program as LC looks ahead to their final year of play
at the NJCAA level in 2017. In the fall of 2018 the athletics
program will begin play as an NAIA program, and these two stars
figure to be leaders who will help take the Lady Lynx basketball
program to new heights. [Mark
