On
April 25, 2017, Associate Judge William Workman accepted a fully
negotiated plea agreement which sentence Sheila Rice to 12 years in
prison for the offense of Aggravated Battery, a class 2 felony.
|
The conviction and sentence stem from a June 30, 2016
incident at Logan Correctional Center. Sheila Rice, an inmate at Logan
Correctional Center, was involved in a verbal altercation with another
inmate.
Correctional Officer Allison Kenney responded to the
scene. Correctional Officer Kennedy gave commands for inmate Rice to go
back to her room – which were ignored. Correctional Officer Kennedy
stepped in front of inmate Rice to prevent a physical altercation when
inmate Rice punched and kicked Correctional Officer Kennedy.
