 The prom goers and many family and friends
gathered around the courthouse lawn for the Grand March, which began
promptly at 4:30 p.m. with Greg Taylor serving as the Master of
Ceremonies. As the each couple was introduced to a round of
applause, the crowd was given a chance to admire the beauty.
So many gorgeous couples walked down those historic steps. The
dresses were unique, each and every one, and really breath-taking.
Simply put, the ladies were stunning. Meanwhile the tuxes really
showcased just how handsome the young men are who were escorting
those lovely ladies.
At the Grand March the Prom King and Queen, real-life couple Lukas
Aylesworth and Kaity Jason, were introduced. Jason could be seen
with a smile as wide as a mile, saying to her beau, “We finally did
it!” Aylesworth, perhaps one of the most likable kids on the planet,
was the Homecoming King earlier in the school year. The rest of the
Prom Court included: Ashlyn Hickey, Eli Griesheim, Skye Kretzinger,
Eli Olson, Stormy Pal and Alyssa Barger. 2016 Prom King and Queen,
William Stewart and Kamryn Aylesworth, were on hand to relinquish
their titles.
Following the Grand March, the crowd stayed around a while to take
advantage of the many photo opportunities. Finally the kids
dispersed and headed out to the many different restaurant locations
around the area for a delicious meal. Among the popular restaurant
locations favored by students were Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano,
Chesapeake Bay Seafood House, Saputo’s, Fugi Japanese Steakhouse and
The Beach House. After dinner the kids met at the American Legion
Home in Mount Pulaski at 8 p.m. for the Prom.
The theme of this year’s prom was “Diamonds are Forever” with a
background for photo opportunities set up that read “Glitz and Glam
- Mount Pulaski High School 2017 Prom” overhead. The hall was
decorated beautifully with purple and black accents everywhere and
even little diamonds (not real of course) adorned each table.
Several teachers were on hand as chaperones and everyone enjoyed
Donna Vaughan cake and punch for dessert. “Donna Vaughan did a
phenomenal job with the cake,” said Prom Sponsor Melanie Hinson. "It
turned out really cute.” Freshmen cake servers were Isabella Wade
and Olivia Cooper. Thomas Stauffer, also a freshman, served as the
doorman for the evening.
Nick Davis served as the DJ for the prom and an evening of dancing
commenced until 11 p.m.

Finally, Hinson said this of the spectacular evening,
"Our prom committee kids did a phenomenal job decorating and picking
everything out. It was a lot of work.”
Moving on to Post Prom, which was held at the
school’s gymnasium, nearly 100 kids participated in this event.
Jeanie Beccue, who has been involved with the project along side
Kelly Bailey for many years, was more than pleased with the turnout
and the student’s awesome response to the night of fun. “It was
wonderful,” said Beccue. “The hypnotist was fun as always and we had
some really awesome inflatables this year. The big one was called
Meltdown and was like the tv show “Wipeout” with sweeper arms that
you had to jump over or duck under or get knocked off your pedestal.
It was so fun! We also had Human Foosball and Knockerballs, where
you get your upper body inside a giant inflatable ball and run into
other players trying to knock them over.”
The Post Prom ended around 4:30 a.m. with the prizes being awarded.
Cash and gift cards are favorites among the prizes. It is worth
mentioning that a team of volunteer parents and grandparents put
this event on, which is made possible through the many generous
donations from the community.
Final Note as a keepsake: MPHS alum Sam McCarty also designed a
really cool t-shirt for those attending the prom. Her creativity
included a giant diamond in place of the “O” in the word “PROM"
while the words “MPHS” and “Diamonds are Forever” were also
displayed on the shirt. The year “2017” also made the cut on the
t-shirt, which was brilliantly accented with sparkles across the
front. Students had their choice between a short-sleeved shirt or a
baseball style 3/4 length sleeved shirt. A win-win situation for
everyone and sure to be a treasured keepsake for years to come.
