Dew Hayes got the home team going, leading off the second
inning with a base hit as he and the next nine batters either
got base hits or walked and came around to score. Jude Toft,
Trey Schilling, Ashton Corley, and Parker Graue all gathered
hits and scored, while Deegan Aeilts, Brady Miller, Tate
Johnston, and Aaron Roede all walked and scored. Kyle Gellner
rapped a double to left field but was stranded on second base to
end the inning. That proved to be all the runs the Heat needed
as Tate Johnston scattered four hits and a run over four innings
and Jude Toft came in to close out the final two innings for a
9-3 win. Kyle Gellner added another single and Griffin Shaw had
a double in later innings but were stranded on base.
The night cap proved to be a back-and-forth affair.
Olympia opened the scoring in the second, plating two runs on
starter Deegan Aeilts. But Lincoln came back with three of their
own in the third on four consecutive singles by Toft, Schilling,
Shaw, and Hayes. Brady Miller threw three strong innings of
relief, although the Spartans were able to tie the score in the
top of the 4th. But the Heat responded again in the bottom half
of the inning. Ashton Corley legged out an infield single and
promptly stole second and third. Shaw followed with a two-out
walk as Corley was able to score on a wild pitch. Shaw would
also eventually come around to score on a wild pitch to add an
insurance run before Trey Schilling came in to close out the
game, striking out the side in a scoreless fifth and a 5-3 Heat
victory.
