[May 17, 2017]  The Central Illinois Riot 12U Softball Team was perfect on Saturday in a 14-0 win over Forsyth.

Typically in a perfect nine-inning game 27 batters are faced and 27 batters are retired. No walks and no errors are recorded. In fact, no one even reaches first base. Perfect games are very rare. In all of Major League Baseball there have only been 23 perfect games.

Rachel Dawson of Stanford pitched a perfect game on Saturday for the Riot and she can add nine strikeouts to her otherwise “goose-egg” stats for the game.

Because of the tremendous offensive effort by the Riot, the game only went three innings. In softball when a team is ahead by more than 12 runs early on, the game ends after three innings of play.

Dawson’s outstanding performance on the mound, striking out all nine batters she faced, obviously was a key factor in the win, 'the perfect win.'

The team also consists of several players from Lincoln and Mount Pulaski.

Lincoln girls on the Riot are Cara Farnam, Emmorie Brown, Izzy Brooks, Lauryn Crawford and Adi Rumler.

Mount Pulaski girls on the team are Scout Tschantz, McKenna Wilham and Jayda Allspach.

The remaining roster features Amara Erickson of Mason City, Ava Armstrong of Oreana, Ella Faught of Argenta and Haylei Simpson of Cerro Gordo.

Congratulations to all of the girls participating in this very unique accomplishment.
