This is the first time Cano has been on the disabled list
since June 27-Aug. 8, 2006, when he was sidelined with a
strained left hamstring.
To take Cano's spot on the roster, the Mariners called up
outfielder Boog Powell from Triple-A Tacoma.
Cano, 34, who missed the past five games with the injury, is
hitting .296 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs.
Taylor Motter has been getting most of the playing time at
second base in Cano's absence.

The New York Mets placed shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera on the
10-day disabled due to his sprained left thumb, the team
announced.
The move was made retroactively to Sunday. Cabrera aggravated a
previous injury to the thumb on Saturday and missed the last two
games. The 31-year-old is batting .257 with three homers this
season.
New York filled the roster spot by signing right-hander Neil
Ramirez. The Mets moved closer Jeurys Familia (blood clot in
shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list to open up a 40-man roster
spot for Ramirez.

The Toronto Blue Jays promoted outfielder Darrell Ceciliani from
Triple-A Buffalo and optioned right-handed pitcher Leonel Campos
to the Bisons before Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Braves.
After outfielder/infielder Steve Pearce (right calf) was put on
the disabled list Monday, the Blue Jays recalled Campos, who
pitched 2 1/3 innings in the 10-6 loss to the Braves.
The Blue Jays had a two-player bench for that game and Ceciliani
will provide an extra outfielder. In 21 games at Buffalo, he hit
.145 with three RBIs. ))
