[May 27, 2017]  LINCOLN - Joseph E. Fitzpatrick, 69, passed on to eternal life on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 5:21 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation: Holy Family Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Rosary at 4:45 p.m. at the church on Wednesday

Elks Memorial Service will follow visitation at the church on Wednesday evening.

Service: Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church

Obituary

Joseph E. Fitzpatrick, 69, passed on to eternal life on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 5:21 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be held at 4:45 p.m. at the church. An Elks memorial service will follow the visitation at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln. Rev. Jeffrey G. Laible will officiate.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lincoln. Military Rites to be accorded by Lincoln American Legion Post #263.

Joseph Edward Fitzpatrick was born October 15, 1947, in Lincoln, the son of Greg and Evelyn Fitzpatrick. He married Peggy Fitzsimmons on October 20, 1979. She survives.

Joe is also survived by his parents; his children: Shawn (Kristen) Fitzpatrick, Andy (Hannah) Fitzpatrick, Katie (Justin) Overbey, and Shane Fitzpatrick. Joe was the first child of Greg and Evelyn. His surviving siblings include: Louie (Sue) Fitzpatrick, Mary (Phil) Ripa, Deb Curry, Joni (Galen) Marten, and Peg (Greg) Morrow. Joe was a loving grandfather to Justin, Alex, and Emma Fitzpatrick; Haylee and Mikayla Overbey, and Aiden and Edward Fitzpatrick.

Funeral Director

Joe was preceded in death by two infant brothers, William Paul and James Gregory. Also preceding him in death were his grandparents, Joseph and Agnes Fitzpatrick, and Louis and Marie Ryan.

Joe grew up in Lincoln and graduated first from St. Mary’s School and then from Lincoln Community High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Fitzpatrick Electric for the last 40 years. Joe was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Lincoln Elks Lodge #914, Lincoln American Legion Post #263, and was a 4th Degree Knight with Lincoln Knights of Columbus Council 1250 (also having served as Grand Knight during three separate timespans). Joe was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed playing and watching golf. He also enjoyed the traveling he was able to do with Peggy. Joe was the 2012 Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year, which speaks to the amount of time he donated to the various festivals in town.

Memorials may be made to Knights of Columbus Council 1250 or Carroll Catholic School.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln.
