Girls Basketball: WLB Lady Wolverines win dual championships

The 7th and 8th grade West Lincoln Broadwell Lady Wolverine Basketball teams brought home the Logan County Championships.

7th grade team

The 7th grade team won the semi-final game against CCS/NHM/ZLS by a score of 55-8.

WLB was led in scoring by Kloe Froebe with 17 points and Ellie Martinez with 14. Also contributing on the offensive side was Jenna Bowman 8, Tori Geriets 6, Piper Whiteman 6, Becca Heitzig and Rebecca Burge 2. Jenna Bowman led on the rebounding side of things with 6 as Froebe pulled down 5.

Defensively the Lady Wolverines saw almost every player with a steal. Jenna Bowman led in steals with 6 as Kloe Froebe added 5 and Becca Heitzig 3.

With the victory the Lady Wolverines would face the Honeybears of Mount Pulaski for the championship.

7th Grade Championship team

The Lady Wolverines pulled out to a demanding first quarter lead of 27-0 and never looked back. The Lady Wolverines went on to win the Logan County Championship by a score of 51-21.

Kloe Froebe led all scorers with 25 as Jenna Bowman and Becca Hetizig added 6 a piece. Also contributing was Elly Martinez with 5, Tori Geriets 4, Jane Turner 3 and Piper Whiteman 2. Jenna Bowman led on the boards with 9 big boards as Froebe and Martinez worked extremely hard and pulled down 6 boards a piece.

Defensively Froebe picked up 12 steals to assist in the defensive attack Heitzig and Bowman also assisted with 3 steals a piece.

The 7th grade Lady Wolverine Basketball team is now 16-0

8th grade team

The 8th grade WLB Lady Wolverine basketball team was on a mission to gain their first mark on the wall for their 8th grade year.

They started the Logan County tournament playing CCS/ZLS/NHM.

The Lady Wolverines came out a bit sluggish but managed to pull away to 26-4 halftime lead. The Lady Wolverines went on to win the game by a score of 50-14. Kloe Froebe led all scorers with 22 as Asia Sales added 11. Also scoring was Jazmyn Robbins 5, Elly Martinez 4, Tori Geriets 4,Becca Hetizig 2 and Jane Turner 2. Tori Geriets worked hard underneath the basket and led in rebounding with 6 as Froebe and Martinez pulled down 3.

On the defensive side Froebe led all steals with8 as Jazmyn Robbins picked up 7.

With the win the 8th grade Lady Wolverines once again were up against the Honeybears of Mount Pulaski.

The Lady Wolverines pulled out to a first-quarter lead with a score of a 15-3. By the end of the half the Lady Wolverines had pulled away with a 29-9 lead.

The Lady Wolverines came out after half and played some stellar defense as they only allowed the Honeybears to score 5 points the entire second half. The Lady Wolverines ended the game with a victory by a score of 46-14.

Kloe Froebe led all scorers with 27 points. Also scoring for the Lady Wolverines were Asia Sales 6, Jazmyn Robbins 5, Elly Martinez 2, Becca Hetizig 2, Tori Schilling 2, Tori Geriets 2. Kloe Froebe and Tori Schilling worked strategically under the basket and pulled down 6 rebounds a piece.

The defense attack was a total team effort as Froebe led with 6 steals but but Asia Sales and Jazmyn Robbins nabbed 5 steals a piece as well.

8th grade Championship Team

With the victory the Lady Wolverines are now the 8th grade Logan County Champions as well as 16-0 on the season.
