THIS WEEK: This will be the eighth of the 10-race NASCAR Cup
playoffs, as well as the middle race of the three-race Round of 8
semifinal round. ... This will be the 34th Cup race held at Texas.
... Carl Edwards won this race last fall, while Jimmie Johnson won
this April's race there. ... Kyle Busch won this past Sunday's race
at Martinsville Speedway, earning him the first of four finalist
spots in the season-ending championship race at Homestead-Miami
Speedway on Nov. 19. ... Of his series-leading seven wins this
season, six of Martin Truex Jr.'s wins have come on 1.5-mile tracks,
including three in the first seven playoff races (Chicago, Charlotte

April. ... Christopher Bell won the most recent Xfinity race, two
weeks ago at Kansas, followed by Tyler Reddick and Blaney. ...

THIS WEEK: This is the 40th time the Trucks will race at Texas. It
also marks the second of the three-race Round of 6 semifinals. The
four highest-ranked drivers after the race at Phoenix in two weeks
will advance to race for the championship at Homestead-Miami
Speedway on Friday, Nov. 17. ... Johnny Sauter won this race last
year en route to his first career Truck Series championship, while
Bell won at Texas this past June. ... After a weekend off, the Truck
Series returned to action at Martinsville Speedway last weekend. On
Saturday, Oct. 28, Noah Gragson won his first career Truck Series
race in his 22nd career start. ... Bell remains No. 1 in the point
standings (3,083 points), followed by defending series champ Sauter
(3,080), two-time former Truck champ Matt Crafton (3,068), Ben
Rhodes (3,049), Austin Cindric (3,028) and John Hunter Nemechek
(3,021).
NATIONAL HOT ROD ASSOCIATION: The series is off this weekend. The
series returns to action for the season-ending AUTO CLUB NHRA
FINALS, Nov. 9-12, at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona (Calif.).
THIS WEEK: The penultimate race of the season, the NHRA Toyota
Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was held last
weekend (Oct. 26-29). ... Winners of the Las Vegas event were: Terry
McMillen (first career NHRA Top Fuel win), Matt Hagan (Funny Car),
Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle).
