League games on Thursday:
Rangers 2, Lightning 1 (OT)
J.T. Miller scored the winning goal 1:19 into overtime as the New
York Rangers picked up their first road win of the season,
surprising the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 2-1 victory.
Miller swept in front of the net and beat goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy,
who made 33 saves. Miller scored his third goal of the season
moments after intercepting a wraparound attempt by Nikita Kucherov.
New York had been 0-3-0 away from home this season, while the
Lightning fell to 6-1-1 at home.
Capitals 4, Islanders 3
Lars Eller had two goals, including the game-winner with 3:21 left,
and added an assist as Washington defeated New York.
Minutes after Washington killed off a New York power-play, Eller
took a feed from Tom Wilson and came down the left side. He fired
high from the left circle and beat Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak
on the short side to snap a 3-3 tie.
The Islanders trailed 3-2 after two periods, but Anders Lee tied it
at the 7:00 mark when he got hit by a Thomas Hickey shot and fired
the loose puck past goalie Braden Holtby for his second goal of the
night to go along with an assist.
Flyers 2, Blues 0
Michal Neuvirth stopped 33 shots and made an early second-period
goal by Brandon Manning stand up to give Philadelphia a shutout win
over St Louis.
The loss, which snapped a four-game winning streak for the Blues,
was their first at home in six games this season and their first in
regulation in their last eight games.
Neuvirth withstood a strong start by the Blues, who outshot the
Flyers 10-1 in the first 10 minutes of the game and went on to post
his 11th career shutout. Philadelphia's Claude Giroux added an
empty-net goal with six seconds left.
Blue Jackets 7, Panthers 3
Josh Anderson and Oliver Bjorkstrand scored twice each to lead
Columbus to a win over Florida.
Anderson has five goals this season, and Bjorkstrand has four. The
Jackets also got one goal and two assists from Boone Jenner.
The Panthers lost their third straight game despite one goal and two
assists by second-line center Vincent Trocheck.
Bruins 2, Golden Knights 1
Sean Kuraly scored his first regular-season goal midway through the
third period, and Tuukka Rask stopped 28 shots to lead Boston to a
victory over Vegas.
The loss was the third straight for the expansion team, which
settled for a 1-1-0 split with the Bruins in its first season
series.
Kuraly, playing in his 19th regular-season game, stuffed a rebound
past Maxime Lagace at 9:53 of the third period to snap a 1-1 tie.
Senators 3, Red Wings 1
Ottawa reverted to defensive form in a victory over Detroit at
Canadian Tire Centre.
Mark Stone, Alex Burrows and Nate Thompson scored for the Senators,
who were coming off an 8-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
Anthony Mantha scored for Detroit.
Jets 5, Stars 2
Special-teams success and a Mark Scheifele hat-trick led Winnipeg to
a win over Dallas.
Scheifele scored a power-play goal in the first period and added two
goals in the third period. Patrik Laine and Tyler Myers also scored
for Winnipeg.

Alexander Radulov and Mattias Janmark scored for Dallas.
Wild 6, Canadiens 3
Matt Cullen had a goal and assist on his 41st birthday, and
Minnesota earned a win against Montreal.
Devan Dubnyk made 28 saves in goal for Minnesota. Nino Niederreiter,
Tyler Ennis, Ryan Suter, Jared Spurgeon and Marcus Foligno also
scored for the Wild, who recovered from a listless home loss to the
Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.
Brendan Gallagher scored twice for Montreal.
Avalanche 5, Hurricanes 3
Semyon Varlamov had a career-high 57 saves, Carl Soderberg and
Patrik Nemeth had a goal and an assist each, and Colorado beat
Carolina.
Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog and Blake Comeau also had goals
and Nathan MacKinnon had two assists for Colorado, which survived a
strong Carolina push in the third period.
The Hurricanes outshot the Avalanche 22-7 in the last period but
Varlamov stopped all of them to eclipse his previous high in saves
of 54 done against Chicago on Jan. 6, 2015.
Flames 2, Penguins 1 (OT)
Mark Giordano scored at 2:19 of overtime to lead Calgary to a win
over Pittsburgh.
Giordano took a pass from Matthew Tkachuk and wired a shot to the
top corner past Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry, who was making just
his second NHL start.
Sean Monahan also scored for the Flames, while goalie Mike Smith
finished with 43 saves.
Sabres 5, Coyotes 4
Kyle Okposo scored with one second remaining in the first period to
swing the momentum and start Buffalo on a run of five consecutive
goals, and the Sabres kept Arizona winless at home.
Benoit Pouliot had two goals and an assist and linemate Ryan
O'Reilly added two assists to support Robin Lehner, who stopped 25
shots despite giving up three Arizona goals in the final eight
minutes.
Antti Raanta made an uneven return to net for the Coyotes, who are
0-5-1 at home and an NHL-worst 1-12-1 overall.
Kings 5, Maple Leafs 3
Tyler Toffoli scored two goals to help Los Angeles beat Toronto.
Toffoli scored twice late in the second period to give the Kings a
5-0 advantage. Michael Cammalleri, Michael Amadio and Trevor Lewis
also scored for Los Angeles (10-2-1).
Auston Matthews scored on a penalty shot for Toronto but missed on a
penalty shot with 1:20 left in the third period. Connor Brown and
Morgan Rielly also scored for the Maple Leafs.
