The
donation consisting of a check and cash came to $2,377. Pending
school board approval, the LCHS Choir and Theater are hoping to
present the classic children’s tale, Peter Pan, as their spring
play.
Graue explained that the funds were raised through the Graue Test
Drive event held on Saturday. There, people were encouraged to come
in and test drive one of several new cars on the Graue lot.
With the
simple, no strings attached, test drive, a donation of $25 was made
to the school musical. Graue said the dealership saw 73 test drives
during the morning on Saturday.
In
addition, the dealership was hosting a car wash to benefit the
musical and also was selling Sloppy Joe sandwiches.

Peterson-Quinn is excited to have the opportunity to bring Peter
Pan to Lincoln, but it is a costly venture. She said she has talked to companies
that will bring in the flying rigs and do the training for the young actors who
will do the flying. That portion of the cost is going to range $7,000 to $8,000.
She said the fundraiser held by Graue is going to have a
significant impact on the ability to finance the play. She explained that
generally speaking, the dollars made from the previous year musical are put
toward paying the cost of the next one. This year she is also looking at
splitting the proceeds from the upcoming Madrigal Dinner between the choir and
the musical.
In addition, the school will happily take private donations for
the program. She said that anyone wishing to make a donation could do so by
mailing a check to Lincoln Community High School and designating it as for the
spring play.
Graue said that in addition to the donation through the dealership, he knew of
at least one other person who made a significant donation directly to the school
musical. He said he applauded Phil Dehner for his support of the musical, and is
hopeful that others will donate as well.
On Saturday, those who came out to test drive a vehicle were given the keys and
permitted to take vehicles for a spin. If they did the test drive, bought a
sandwich, and went to the rear of the building to have their car washed, they
received a discount coupon for 50 percent off an oil change on their vehicle.
The spring musicals are held on the LCHS Dan McLaughlin Stage, and generally
play for multiple nights Look for more details about the play after the first of
the year.
