Lincoln struggled early in the game with
converting on open looks and with consistency at the free-throw
line. Despite these issues, the team led by five at the half
(32-27). After the break, LC was able to reduce their errors and
managed to outscore SWIC 27 to 13 in the third quarter. From
there the team rolled to a 22-point win to improve their record
to 2-0.
Sophomore guard Erynn Young (Indianapolis) helped Lincoln
maintain a lead from the first quarter on by recording a
double-double. Young had 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also led
the defense with four blocked shots.
Kaleia Monteiro, a 5’8” freshman from Rockford, just missed a
double-double of her own. Monteiro scored 10 points, but was one
shy of double-digits in rebounds with nine.
Freshman Allysha Boothe (Evanston) just edged out Young for the
lead in points scored with 16. Boothe was also able to dish out
eight assists.
Sophomore Nautica Preston (Chicago) turned in a strong
all-around performance by scoring 14 points, grabbing two steals
and handing out five assists.
Lincoln Coach Matt Vavro was pleased with his team’s effort. “We
played kind of a sloppy first half,” said Vavro, “but we came
out in the third quarter with better intensity, cu t down on our
mistakes and got out in transition which opened up the floor.”
The Lady Lynx will next be in action on November 8th for a home
game against Kennedy King CC. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
