Despite the loss, Lincoln College Coach Mark
Tippett was proud of the way his team competed. “We made them
work hard for every point today and showed that we can compete
with one of the best teams in the country,” said Tippett. “I was
satisfied with the way we passed the ball and our intensity on
defense. Parkland is a very consistent team and they showed why
they are ranked as highly as they are.”
The Lady Lynx finish their final season of competition as a
member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
with a record of 24-12. In the fall of 2018, Lincoln College
will begin play at the varsity level as a member of the National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
“I was very pleased with the outcomes we got from this season.
We knew we were going to be hosting the Region Final Four this
year, so we set our sights on qualifying to play in the event
right from the start,” said Coach Tippett. “I was very happy for
our players that we achieved that goal.”
Coach Tippett is optimistic about the future of his team at the
varsity level. “I am looking forward to the new challenges that
are ahead for our program,” he said. “We will return most of our
players from this year’s team and look to add some athletic
players to the roster. I believe we will be ready to compete at
a high level right away in the NAIA.”
In the District K Regional Championship match (also played at LC
on Saturday) Lincoln Land Community College defeated Illinois
Central College in three sets. Parkland and Lincoln Land each
advance to play in the NJCAA DII National Tournament to be held
November 16-18 in Charleston, West Virginia.
